Recommend an ebike £4-£5k

I’ve had my Cube 140 for a while, done around 3500km on it so far, and really like it. But, I’ve been thinking lately of upgrading to something with a 160, as that’s what I should have got originally due to the type of riding I’m doing.

I‘ve read about issues with Specialized bikes, Cube do tend to offer a lot more for the money, but I’m open to other brands. I’d like something as light as possible, ideally with the Bosch motor as that seems to be the most reliable.

So, with a £4K limit, I could stretch to £5K for the right bike, what full suspension ebikes do you guys recommend?

Too big, too far and it’s used. Other than that I’m sure it’s spot on!!!

EMTB’s have gone up in price for 2021 and with production issues due to COVID meaning they are hard to get hold off, so a lightly used one migh get you a great bike for a good price.

failing that I would be looking at Whyte and Trek with the Bosch motor, and the new Vitus’s and Marin EMTB’s if Shimano at that price point.

we have not see all the new bikes with the ep8 launched yet though so there should be some more announce over the next few months

So far, the Whyte E-160RS and the Trek Rail 9 looks good (yes, I know they’re over budget, but budgets are set to be broken! ). Stock seems to be an issue on these two though, so if anyone has seen either of these in medium available, let me know please.

You could copy Rob and make your own custom monster ? I think it's about €60 if they paint it...

If you like the Cube, then maybe stick with the cubes ? they will feel familiar ?

I wouldn't discount the Spesh on what you've heard, there's soo many more of them out there compared to other things and us Spesh owners are a wingy bunch who constantly expect the red carpet service !

£400. I did have to almost plead for it. They are a great shop. My bikes delayed til mid jan. they lend me a e150 or 160 whenever I want it. With a service like that it’s hard not to go back to them.

You may have to pay retail though. Demand is high. I got the only e180s in my size the shop can have

Both my wife and I went EMTB at the begging of 20, I went Turbo Levo and my other half bought a Whyte 150s Both new, went back into our local shop last October for tyres and on a stand was a new Cube 160 and we did a PX deal on the spot.

My other half loves it, purely from a manufacturing and quality/finish point of view it’s a quantum league in front of Speacial TL, but neither bike with the Bosch motor was as quick as my Brose.

Went and had a look at a Whyte E-160 RS this afternoon, and was very impressed. Just need to research it a bit more, but will probably bite the bullet on Monday.

I really wanted to see the Trek Rail 9, for comparison, but there’s no stock anywhere, with nothing coming for around 6 months.

Edit - I’m not very impressed that Whyte have decided to fit the cheapest Bosch display to a bike costing nearly £6k. So the first job will be to get a Kiox or 2021 Nyon display fitted, but at this price point really shouldn’t have to spend extra on a proper display.

That’s where I saw the Whyte today. They’re holding it for me until Monday, but the display may be a deal breaker. WI’ll see what options there are.

I think they said when it was released that they went for the Purion because it was the smallest and simplest display option. It's the least likely to get broken as well.

I’m used to activity tracking on the Bosch app now, so don’t want to take a backward step. Being able to monitor calories burned and see the routes I’ve done on a map is a great feature, plus being able to send routes to the unit via my phone is quite cool.

Does anyone know how the Whyte bikes speed sensor is mounted? I meant to look earlier but forgot. Do they use a spoke mounted magnet, similar to Cube?

They use the disc magnet.

Trek Rail is an amazing bike, but as you are in Surrey, YT is a great option since they have a mew centre your way
