Purion 200 or Purion 400 "downgrade"

My bike came stock with the LED remote and I bought and fitted a Kiox 300 at the same time as I wanted some form of a display (mainly speed).

A bit over a year later, there's now some alternatives and I'm considering "downgrading" the Kiox 300 to a purion 200 or 400.

I like a fairly clean cockpit, and the Kiox is a bit of liability (both in crashes and when some see you next Tuesday tried nicking it while I was in the pub). It's main advantage, that for navigation, is rendered moot by the fact the Flow App is at least for me almost useless when navigating off-road - Experiences with navigating using the Flow app

Both are currently available for the same price where I am.

I'm tending towards the 400 due to placement and maybe better water resistance (?), but I'll gladly except people's thoughts on this.

Purion 200 is an enhanced version of the LED Remote so maybe with that the Kiox 300 is not needed. Purion 400 is a smaller and better positioned display than the Kiox 300 but the LED Remote is still needed.............your choice. The cleanest set up with least cables and most info is the 200.

I swapped out the kiox 300 for the purion 200. No regrets. But then the only thing I’m interested in seeing battery level.

This is why I'm in a bit of decision paralysis.

The 200 as Mikerb rightly says would be the tidiest solution. However, the 400 has a more crash-resistant placement and as far as I can tell, more water resistance, both factors that are not unimportant to me. Screen size is identical I believe.

I might have to toss a coin.

This solves the issue of water and scratch protection for the 200, it's a good fit;

I am unsure about plastic covers. A screen saver is fine but a complete cover possibly prevents natural "breathing" and cause condensation. Whilst some dislike the LED Remote.....and the 200 is just an enhanced version of it......I like the fact it is a simple plug and play replacement just involving one cable connection.
If you go for the 200 you have your original LED Remote as a spare if it goes wrong or gets damaged.
Just like the brake levers I keep my LED Remote clamp loose enough to move if impacted. I also keep a small plastic bag in my pack to cover it if I get caught in a rainstorm. Finally, the way I have my settings tuned I only ever use the emtb mode and always have my Kiox on the same screen....so really only ever press one button....on and off!

Haven't suffered from condensation even during and after a wet day out, otherwise I would have mentioned it.

it should be fine in the rain, but shouldn't be submerged or pressured washed. I think the IP rating is 54.

But any moisture finding its way into the display or electronics is not going to be good. Our devices can survive a certain amount of moisture if given a chance to dry.

I’ve used dielectric grease (minimally) on my motor connections …but that’s it. I haven’t had any problems with displays, controllers or connectors because of water ingress. I’m probably the worst when it comes to that.

The unit has an IP55 rating as shown on the battery cover in this image;

Simply put, a device that is IP55 certified can be exposed to water from any angle – including rain or even a light shower. Devices that are IP55 certified should not be completely submerged in water. IP ratings are an international standard introduced in 1959.

The 400 needs you to keep the LED remote the 200 replaces the LED remote.

200 easily if I were changing mine (currently happy with top tube mounted Kiox 300 and LED remote)

I also thought about replacing the Kiox 300 with the Purion 200/400, but I ended up installing a Garmin Edge 1040 and removing the Kiox display.

Continuously charging the Garmin from the Bosch Kiox cable would be perfect !
The Edge power mount exists, I just need a version with 2 Bosch female dock connectors, and at a third or the price.
