Protective tape

Hi.
Has anyone used clear repair gorilla tape to ptotect there bike frames.
Looks similar to Hele tape but was looking for any info on others using it.

I haven't used Gorilla tape for that purpose. I have no idea how protective it is against impacts and surface abrasion, it looks thinner than even the thinnest heli-tape I have been using. But it may be quite good, I dunno because I haven't used it. Why not give it a go and report back?

If ever you want to remove the Gorilla tape, be prepared for a battle, after all it is an adhesive tape with aggressive claims. By contrast heli-tape comes off quite easily, followed by a wipe over with IPA to remove any residual adhesive.

Gorilla tape is superb when used as rim tape for tubeless tyres. Compared to the rim tape I have had to remove, it performs on another level entirely.

That's good for stickers or shaped patches, but I prefer a roll of protective tape so that I can do an entire down tube or the stays. I use Bike Tape from Bike Tart (when it's in stock!)

I've used some clear gorilla tape just where my front mudguard is zip-tied to my forks - it works great there as you hardly see it.

I wouldn't use it on a larger area though, where it is easily visible, as it seemed impossible to get on without bubbles forming underneath. Maybe I was just crap at putting it on, as I was doing a quick job for the mudguard

Also not sure how it will work on paint - e.g. when you remove it - as the Gorilla tapes are all extremely sticky.

After messing with various bits of helitape over the years, i dropped my new Levo off at Invsiframe this morning and they did the frame, forks and cranks for a very reasonable price. The quality difference is night and day compared to when i’ve had a go

Yes I bought a Role of clear gorilla tape the other day just for that purpose , it works very well , it’s been on a new bike that gets lots of hard use and it’s staying put in the places where the normal invisitape would lift , I recomend it and at about £6 for a decent size roll it’s cheaper

I discovered that when helicopter tape is applied to a green or red or blue gloss finish bike, you can't see the tape from any further away than 15"-18".
But on a black satin finish, it looks like there is a layer of condensation underneath the tape, and it looks vile.

The lesson is to test an area first before doing the whole bike.

I use 3m vinyl wrap. Easily removable, unlike some tapes.

3m makes a great clear vinyl called moto guard.
You can buy it in large sheets.
I use it on bottom bracket and down tube. Works great and u can get it up to 3m thick.
It comes off pretty easy with a heat gun

Lmao. Sorry left out a m there 3mm thick.
Have you found the clear mask in thickness more then 1mm thick??
The moto guard 3m i find comes in 3 sheets to pack and there 12x26 inches per sheet
