The only problem is the fingers they turn into icicles after 20 minutes

I don't know if there's a glove πŸ€” invented yet for keeping immobile fingers or tootsies warm unless heated . I have a pair of Granberg I think their Norwegian . Joined a ship at Hammerfest supplied us with all the Devold merino gear. Still freezing.
Nothing help since the hand never moves but static, when skiing you move your hands all the time. I have tried many different types of "hand protection" but still freeze and heated gloves don't have elements all the way around the fingers so I ended up with thin merino gloves and 45NRTH lobster gloves outside.
Mittens would help, they are much warmer, but I don't dare to use, I rather freeze than not be able to brake properly.

I know what you mean, used mittens the other week but on a land rover track. Yes I have leather Rossignal gloves for skiing keep hands like toast.

Chose the least muddy trails but still had to stop twice today to remove enough mud to keep the wheels turning. And I don't tell me to take the fenders/mudguards off, the end result is the same but with me also covered with mud.

Disgusting. I removed side covers on levo today to check cables . Mud in there as well. It really is amazing these things go with all the muck getting in everywhere. Piddly little wires with plugs on end. Some patience needed to clean that area. And as for that fancy muck off cleaning degreaser and all weather chain oil waste of Β£20 .

Took 45 minutes to clean the bike. 😞

Agree with you, the fancy cleaning stuff does exactly nothing with mud this thick so didn't bother with it. Calipers were also rammed with mud, amazing that they still worked but honestly didn't brake much because of the weight and friction of the crap on the wheels.

Edit: With good reason the Romans tried to avoid West Sussex mud.

Yes I've had days with mud on my tyres like your pic. When I hear these stories about wax baths etc for chain and how it stays clean I wonder.

I went for a walk a few days ago along a local bridleway I ride down a fair bit...and somehow a pair of secateurs fell into my pocket. Anyway I cleared all the fallen twigs, branches and large stones from the path (as the stone walls are slowly deteriorating ) pruned the overhanging holly and thorn trees and tackled most of the brambles that also snag you as you ride or walk down the bridleway .
By clearing the debris off the trail the mud is now drying out nicely as the water can flow down the trail into the brook at the bottom ( yes it doesn't look like it but it's a downward incline). I think I did a pretty good job!
Pity come summer there'll be nettles everywhere but theres not a lot I can do about that, unfortunately.

Incidentally, I rode with my mate who has a from the future Zerode Katipo belt drive bike. His Gates carbon belt came off THREE times today. I know we're all getting hyped for the next big thing MGU era but on today's experience, they don't appear to cope with sloppy conditions all that well & that's on an unassisted bike.

Probably wind-chill was a factor …especially on fishing trawlers. Likely why skiing or biking can freeze those digits.

I only wore wool gloves for falling because of very little wind. If they got wet …just ring them out. Good enough πŸ‘πŸ».

Dachstein mittens have long been the favourite for hill walking in Scotland for us older gentlemen anyway. Still have 2 pairs , last forever. Too slippery for serious biking .

When it gets really cold (<0C) I wear my skiing Hestra Army Leather 5 finger Gore-Tex gloves. Also have Hestra Mitts but they're not bike control friendly of course.
Really cold? πŸ€” Imho <-20c when you must be quick when taking hands out of gloves for operating something. πŸ₯Ά The bad around 0c is when there is humidity that is crawling into shoes and clothes. 😬
