Unlucky Tubs, my dropper cable shat itself in sympathy whilst the seat was down. Last time that happened, it was motor out to route the cable.

DIRTY DOZEN DOES DERBY
Had a great 3 days riding down in Derby Tasmania, cool days at only around 14C but no rain which makes it just that little bit better. Never ridden on rocks with so much grip.
Apart from one of the hire bikes being absolute shite with intermittent assist on day one before completely shitting itself on day two leaving a mate completely knackered after having to pedal a 23kg monster up and down dale for 20km it was and awesome couple of days with around 110km of riding with some epic tracks ridden. Can't wait to do it again.

Did a local loop yesterday and was very taken with a field of barley.

I wasn't riding through that, but along a footpath through it. The farmer makes the footpath one of his wheelings when crop sowing. The footpath connects my village with the one next to it and has probably been there for at least 1000 years (both villages were in the Domesday Book (ca 1066).

A bit further on I paused on the crest of an old brick bridge over the River Witham.

I followed the swans as they sailed under the old bridge and managed to catch them before they disappeared under the new bridge.

Much nicer to look at than the sewage treatment plant I cycled past later. There were massive clouds of midges (must have been mating time) which I had to bike through. I managed to hold my breath for long enough but they still got in my ears and in my (bike) helmet!

Our usual meeting point for local pootles 10 years apart to the day. Its quite scary that I remember the first pic really well…I realised on that ride I was overbiked and subsequently moved from the Heckler to a Cotic Soul which was later replaced by an ebike. Fingers crossed we last another ten years!

Bit overcast today but still a grand day out.

We usually have a couple of nights on the golf course, cracking place to get the kayak out fishing and handy for kirroughtree, dalbeatie and mabie

Had a little plod about looking for new trails. Found some pleasant flowing, twisty woodland entertainment. Wasn't DH madness, but I wasn't trying to kill myself so was shorts and t-shirt and not the normal armour. Plus, you don't stop for pics when you're trying to kill yourself.

Which had it's downsides as quite a few bits of my ride were like this. The ferns are ok, it's the mass of brambles mixed in which you have to use your skin to tear out of the way ..

Pretty logging track with the Foxgloves...

Trying to turn a negative into a positive, having exhausted my water, I realised the amount of blood loss from the brambles could possibly, just, maybe, cause death .. so I was forced to de-tour and top up my body fluid levels.

I gently grabbed the cooter and set it off the trail. It hissed at me.

I had a lovely worship session at the altar of boost and burned through 85% of the battery in a bit less than two hours. Garmin claims I burned 900 calories.

Super green and lovely out. Nice and cool today too.

Uhhhh, wouldn‘t touch a cooter(turtle ?) if not being sure what kind it is after a guy kept me during vacation from taking a small one by hand from a road in Vermont USA. I had cooters as a kid in Germany but that one was a „snapper“. When the guy hit it by a stick the head came out in milliseconds with longest neck ever and snapping the stick at its backside. Would have been painful for me.

The snappers are easy to distinguish from the box, slider, and cooter turtles. Snappers are mean. I wouldn't pick one up.

It is very loose so usually have to walk maybe 100mtrs. Managed it all a couple times more luck than skill. Turbo all the way. Downhill is about 4 miles at least.

An absolute cracker of an early evening ride out of Alwinton in The Cheviot Hills with @The EMF yesterday ..
Why so ?
Two main reasons..firstly as it was a " short " route we had already decided to ride the whole thing in emtb mode ( Bosch) for a giggle and secondly..in all the years we've been riding in these hills we both agreed that the ground conditions were the driest we could ever recall..
I had calculated the route to be approx 12 miles ..and we were surprised when it turned out to be 17miles forgetting that Wayne had added a little extra right at the very start to take us up the valley past Clennell Hall as far as Kidlandlee before doubling back on ourselves to get onto the old Drove Road that is Clennell Street ..

We had to take a slight detour from Shilmoor as a herd of cows with calves were guarding the gate we wanted to pass through ..and we ain't that stupid ..so we ended up crossing that ford over the river in the Pic above ..I plodged across...Wayne to his credit rode it ( if not a little unsteadily ) ..it was more than a little bit slippery...

The trails were so dry and so fast. A nice little tester after renewing the pivot bearings on the Whyte earlier this week

Some delightful singletrack in the woods last night but my dropper cable let go again, cutting things short. This time I've clamped the cable at the lever end & used the ferrule at the post end which I probably should have done first time round, it's no fun dong the ride of shame looking like some middle aged BMX dude coming in for their tea from the skatepark.

Ditto previous posts…..warm, dry, dusty, sweet etc etc

First summer evening ride in ages ( well, I suppose from last summer) and it was just wonderful. Trails are just riding incredibly well and isnt it odd how in the UK a period of warm sunny weather just transforms everywhere you took for granted.

Went for a latte as I was feeling all continental tonight.

Doing Sunday things on a Saturday ( y' know cutting the grass , washing the car etc ) as we are away for a few days from tomorrow ..didn't think I would have time for a ride but managed a sneaky one while tbh is out visiting her mam ...straight from the door and over the hill into the Pundershaw section of Kielder Forest ..quite a nice little mix of little used singletrack country
roads , forest logging roads and off road singletrack..( lopper & folding saw needed for a quick branch trim next time ) ..
Even met Rosie ..in a totally unexpected place on the edge of the Forest..

It looks worse than it actually is ..just a few straggly branches gave me a bit of a thrashing on the way past ..nothing to what the missus will give me if she finds out ..
Re : brake levers ..not sure what you mean ..there's one on each side ..a dropper on the left and shifter on the right ..anyway that's pretty rich coming from someone who drives on the wrong side of the road ..
