Me and my mate were mooching around Chopwell and the local area earlier before heading back to Rowlands Gill for a pint. We came across a little nature reserve just below the main cycle route near Hamsterley Mill so decided to go through it. Turns out it was created in memory of the planning officer who got shot by that crazy farmer back in 1991. It's a shame really, it was quite overrun and not very well signposted, we both didn't know it existed. Nice little place though just needs some more footfall and a bit of tidying up

Nice find......I remember that incident, a farmer built a bungalow on his farm without planning permission and was told to demolish it......sad a man died over it.

More hard work with the motor mostly off trying to shed some more weight for the end of the month. Way cheaper to lose weight on me than the bike ?

ah, I love that sculpture of the "fire boss" having been raised in a coal mining family - a breath of fresh air on the subject as over in Western Canada we seem to be anti-coal mining, anti- well just about everything it seems, blame it on the covid
