Australia Day here in Oz, so even though it's a little warm out there, I thought I'd get some training in on the sea cliffs near Bronte. I just practice my technical climbs and descends on all the rocky level changes.

Great mental health spot here.

Looks like ‘Straya day was nicer than Auckland anniversary day! We had weather giving us all kinds of weathery stuff, while remaining warm enough that we felt like we’d like to be out and about, despite the weather.
Definitely not riding weather.

What a beautiful weather today! Had to go for a ride even that I guessed that conditions are challening. Load`s of ice so impossible to ride without spikes but same time rocks exposed so really tricky to ride with spikes, so tricky that I crashed on rocks and was sure I wrote off my fork. But, lower leg and crown took decent hit and cratches and nothing on upper stanchions 😀. Then I tried to move the bike and realized that rear mech is stucked behind one spoke. I was on fourth gear and was sure that mech is gone, but again, I rotated the wheel little bit backwards and mech pinged back and gears worked perfectly after 😀
Maybe next time no ice anymore and summer tires on…

Sometimes ( not often mind ) the weather gods work in your favour ..sickened by the fact that Storm Eowyn had torn to shreds our riding plans for yesterday ..I decided last night that fuggit ..I was heading out this morning and looking at the forecast it was going to get worse the longer the day progressed ..
A hard frost welcomed me as I packed the bike & gear into the car at 7.15am in the dark and 1hr 15mins later I was at the trail head in Edmundbyers, Co.Durhan to tackle a Bolts Law there & back ( thankful for the quattro system on my car after turning off onto an un-gritted road which was mainly black -ice after leaving the A68).
Even though the temperature was in the -c's I still wasn't expecting the trail to be anything other than muddy ..but not a bit of it ..frozen solid and the puddles crunchy ice ( is there a better sound while riding a bike 😁?) ..so the pace was lot quicker than I could have hoped for ..as I climbed steadily towards the summit of Bolts Law it became obvious that the blue sky that started the ride wasn't going to last and sure enough low cloud / fog was what greeted me at the top & beyond to the Rookhope road ..where turning back the reward is a 7km ( in the main) drop back ..fantastic !
An unexpected treat was being able to ride on top of the trail in places on 3'deep snow ..packed solid ..
One of the best winter rides Ive ever undertaken ..👌

Christmas decorations still adorn this tree ( it gets decorated every year ) ..a favourite of a lot of folks standing as it does as the only tree around for miles ..

The famous grouse ..invited me to have a nip from the bottle he had hidden in the Cairn...well it would have been rude not to..

Oh no I buy Jamesons at least twice a year as they sell half bottles in Tesco. Not had a snowy run this winter but it's not over yet.

Yesterday we finally had a sunny day, 11 celsius/52F after weeks of fog, overvcast and near freezing temps.

This was my second ride in the month, i'm getting a bit out of shape.

Put back the Fox 40, after the flimzy fox 38 it feels so much better.

11C, wow!

We also had about 11C today but the wind was just silly. This is from much earlier this morning (just a few miles from us). Obviously not going out to be blown off my bike. 😮
