How long do people think the E8000 motor will be available to buy new?

l am thinking long term, when the motor in my Kona eventually fails. Would it be an idea to buy a spare motor now? (l would rather not at around £800) or will it still be available in (say) four years time?

l know motors can be repaired, but sometimes they can't, and l don't want to have to replace the bike.

lt's a 2020 Kona bought NOS in 2021 and currently l've done 3,000 miles on it.

How do you see the availablity of motors and parts trending in the future?
Good questions, to which I don't have the answers. Manufactures are starting to do more to stop people repairing these motors, but we can only hope the bike manufacturers put pressure on the motor manufacturers to enable repair in the future or biking will get more expensive and landfill is going get fuller.
You can only rest assured that we will be doing all we can to source, salvage and manufacture what ever we can to keep as many motors as possible, going for as long as possible.

Shimano themselves have not set a date for how long they will support the e8000 engine, so as long as there is support, it will probably be possible to buy new engines.

As far as I know ..I'm currently the only mystic Meg..and my crystal ball is telling me nowt at the moment ..😳
My desperate and confusing attempt to reach for information is evident in summoning @steve_sordy, who is probably useful as a last attempt.😉 Meanwhile, it’s been almost 6 months wait for a dropper post. (Small world problems). Hence the reason for hording a chain and brake pads,(yup, I’m part of the problem) just for my bike.😢

Yep, I was usually picked last for the playground football team as well. I bore the rejection well. :giggle:
I was in the school cross-country team and also the swimming team, but I was really bad at footy (in fact any ball game).

Physically, Shimano has kept the same interface, so in theory you could use an EP8. That said, in theory a VESC can run the hardware of the mid-drive motor, and it's only a matter of time until someone takes a broken Shimano motor, rips out the electronics, and converts it to VESC.

From what i read the battery might be a problem.
Maybe like us here in Quebec you can sell for a good price and
buy something you will trust. In june i got 3,800$ for my 2020 Giant/Yamaha Stance E+.
11 months earlier it costs me 4,000$.
Good luck !
