Had a big off in the Dyfi forest yesterday , got a log jump all wrong on the Trance E2 29 er , not enough speed to carry me over , back wheel clipped some loose logs and I think flipped me off into some rocks and logs , I think , then the bike landed on me, Knocked me out and did not have my full face on but trail lid , 5 inch cut to to the left side of my ugly mug and a face that looked like i was on the set of the walking dead

So off to A/E in Aberystwyth , as because I was concussed had to have an MRI, had a full check over by a consultant and student doctors who took great delight in prodding me, Very thorough , even stuck a finger up my arse and said clench , I did and the consultant said you have good clamping force :) and you will be relieved no blood :)

4 hours later , 3 MRI scan in total , all clear given ,but with cuts to my arms , and 10 plus stitches in my cheek , bruised LH ribs, black eye and now a very stiff neck , on co-codmamol and flucclaxocillin , that co-codamol is sweet though.

Staff and service at the hospital was great I have to say , One of the junior doctors is in to his biking , so we had a good old chat , I got some freebies too, some of the sheets they used to slide me on to the MRI scanner from the trolley , they bin em after , I had 3 , they make good bike covers :)

Bike was unscathed which was my main concern :) and the inevitable nagging of the other half in my endless stupidity began almost immediately!

Moral of the story is , more speed and height and should of worn my full face , Now I will look like Al Capone , but it will be hidden by my beard :) hopefully,

Be safe and have fun , definitely riding beyond my abilities but you have to challenge yourself I guess to progress, even backwards before going forward.

Armor wise , I had a my knee and elbow pads but nothing else so , I have a TLD 7850 also , but of course decided not to wear it , my ribs and back are not thanking me for that,

Ride safe and cheers

Glad you are safe and reasonably OK..
Medical staff have treated me to the finger / arse routine on 3 occasions now for different reasons ..the first time as a nineteen year old when I called into the RVI hospital , Newcastle with what turned out to be a rumbling appendix on a night out on the town ..I was kept in as it turned out to be close to bursting ..with an apology from the doctor afterwards as he thought I was taking the piss ( yeah right !)..and I almost hit the roof with the pain ..??
Heal well..

@mooby77 Glad you are OK! :)

Ref the Co-codamol: Be aware that any codeine based painkiller causes severe constipation. You may not feel up to it, so you may not notice that you haven't been for a dump for 3-4 days. You have a choice, you can ignore me and then suffer the consequences. OR you can start taking something like Senokot, available from all pharmacies non-prescription. We are not talking just a slightly firmer one here, I'm talking lumps of furnace coke!
Prevention is better than cure. You will not like the cure!!

Just slightly too much info there Steve ..I was about to tuck into a chicken sarnie ..?
This is man stuff we are talking about here. I have saved several friends from the unpleasant fate of a manual intervention by contacting them after I'd heard they'd had a bad accident. A third guy I sent an email because he wasn't answering his phone. He just replied "Too late!"
Severe constipation can kill. It is believed to have killed Henry VIII and also a direct cause of the death of Elvis Presley. Even famous people can get bunged up.

Glad you‘re OK (sort of). I had a stupid off many years ago (going over a low wall and catching the chain ring on the lip which tipped me straight over the handlebars) and ended up with over thirty stitches in my face. Luckily my wife drove me down to Lausanne where there was a permanent plastic surgery unit in A & E. Thus, no scars. You said you were not wearing your full face. I hardly wear mine as it has almost no ventilation and is very hot and sweaty so I’ve just bought a Bell super 3r mips full face helmet with a removable chin bar. It certainly looks a lot better ventilated than my old one and your experience encourages me to wear it even though it will look a bit OTT on trails, but then again, all my worst and most painful offs have been on relatively easy ground. I guess concentration levels are much better on steep/fast technical ground.

My sister-in-law had a stroke and ended up in hospital. My wife and I were on hols at the time and it was ten days before we got to see her. She couldn't speak and was paralysed down one side. The first thing I looked at was the chart at the bottom of the bed. I wasn't looking for heart rates and blood pressure, I was looking for bowel movements (yes, it's all there if you look!). She hadn't been once since she got to hospital! I blew my top and interrupted the gaggle of nurses at the end of the ward and assertively told them that this could kill her and demanded to know what were they doing about it! A doctor arrived within minutes, assured me that she was fresh to this ward "that day" and promised me that she would not rest until my sister-in-law had received proper treatment. I suspect that she could see a big scandal coming and wanted no part of it. Anyway, good as her word she had her shipped off to another hospital where they sorted her out within a few hours before returning her to the same ward.

A good friend of mine (R.I.P.) was in hospital for 8 days for abdominal surgery. He was shipped out and nearly burst his stitches when in bed at home later that day. The visiting nurse saved his life by manual intervention (it's a grisly as it sounds). You cannot mess about with this stuff, it is a killer!

Constipation is a excellent source of jokes, but it is also used as a punishment (prisoners put on a diet of bread and water for ex). It can be extremely unpleasant and painful, even if it doesn't kill or seriously injure you.

Been there, done that.

Had a car accident, 3 months in hospital before living with my parents to recover. After 5 days I was in agony with constipation, untill eventually passing what seemed like a piece of coal the size of a baguette.?

"agony" about covers it!

I have a story about when I had my first big problem. :poop:
It is not suitable even for this Forum, but suffice it to say that when I told my brother when we were in the pub, he fell off his stool laughing! I don't just mean he thought it was really funny, he actually laughed so much that he fell off the bar stool. It was ten minutes before he could even look at me without laughing! :ROFLMAO:
The following Monday he told his secretary. She laughed so hard she wet herself! o_O
I said earlier that constipation is an excellent source of jokes, but it also seems to strike everyone that hasn't suffered from it in the same extreme way; they all laugh hysterically.
I remember at the time that I wept. I'm not sure whether it was from the the embarrassment or the relief.

I agree it's not just you, but it's not just me either. Constipation is a possible side effect, not a definite side effect, and I'd rather risk shitting bricks than put up with the pain that prompted the prescription strength pain killers in the first place.

If it was as easy as shitting bricks, that would be acceptable depending upon your injury (abdominal surgery, not). Codeine induced constipation is at a higher level.
But it does not have to be one or the other! By the time you realise it's time for laxatives it may be too late. A simple and effective laxative (not a purgative, which is a whole other thing) is Sennakot, but there are many in your local pharmacy. If you don't have any and you realise you need them, you will need to send someone to get them! Don't leave it too late.
