Hi all !! -- 68 years young and just bought a Trek Powerfly 5HT and am now riding mountain bikes again ! The only problem is that there are only a handful of trails in my area (Boulder) that allow ebikes. These trails are all multi use trails with dog walkers, hikers and horse riders. Seems opposite of what makes sense. O well :).
I have one question: I'm going to be riding a lot, but will never be an aggressive rider, what am I missing out on by having a hardtail instead of a FS bike ? Would a casual rider like myself even notice the difference between HT and FS ?

Hi,
I really notice a huge difference with great shocks on the rough stuff, ruts, routes etc. Helps with all my aches and pains but I’m only 67.
Enjoy yourself.

I have both a HT and FS EMTB. I love the hardtail, but then I ride it quite aggressively and got it because I wanted an HT, rather than any economic reason.

I believe that HT's can be ridden on most terrain an FS can be, but if the going gets rough the are less comfortable and will drain more of your energy.

A FS give you more of a magic carpet ride, and to an extent the rear suspension means you can focus less on line choice - i.e you can go over/though certain trail features rather that round them
