Took my levo for a 1st service today at my concept store.
On putting the bike on my car I decided to remove the front wheel. This proved impossible the Maxle was hard to turn and instead of easing, continued to remain tight! Decided to leave it to the mechanic.
Explained the problem at store and asked them to look at it.
On my return the mechanic informed me that my forks were “terminal” and they would need to speak to Specialised.
Not certain it would be covered by the warranty as it was a thread!
For goodness sake the bike is only 2 months old, I would sincerely hope this WAS covered!
The only time I have had the front wheel off was when I went tubeless and the Maxle went back smoothly. I have only done 358 miles all x cross so not real tough trails, I had been experiencing creakng from the front I suspect now this was something to do with the maxle and fork.

Time to try out specialised customer service!

So the thread is stripped? It's the only damage?

It seems that you should have noticed it was not aligned when you tightened it but I cannot think of another explanation...

we will see but when the wheel was put back on the Maxle did up with no effort at all and wheel and disc were perfectly in line and running free, the mechanic said he has never seen it before.

I can't either unless it sat in salt water for 6 months or so, which certainly doesn't sound like what happened. Weird.

Well my forks are going off to Rockshox tom to see what they have to say, I’m also getting a new motor apparently as my existing one is too noisey, it does “squawk” a bit at times, the mech said rather then take it apart it’s easier to replace.

Unless you overtightened it severely or somehow cross threaded and creamed it up tight then it should be covered . I must say I’ve similar problems with warranty and recall with our concept store , one reason I don’t buy thier bikes any more , they just always seem to find a way to make you pay for it .

We had a similar problem with my daughters forks on a giant bike , she overtightened the axle and it broke the retainer for threaded nut the other side getting them undone , the lower damping adjuster also seized and broke off , the giant dealer just sent them off to fox and we received a rebuilt set of fox factory forks with brand new lowers foc . I fully expected to pay but it seems it’s partly up to how helpful the dealer wants to be .

I’ve had mtb’s for years 11 In total including my fave yt Capra, know how to put in a Maxle, and it only came out once to go tubeless so they are in for a fight if they try to blame “user error”.

I agree I wasn’t suggesting you had mistreated it , just quoting a similar experience and how some dealers seem to want to pass the buck for what seems no good reason . And how easy it can be if they really want to help
