Probalby because on a technical side the new power tube is longer than the existing 500wh one, so if they where going to bring out a larger power pack, it may not fit in the existing mounting system.

I think we will see new external batteries in the future, but only when viable to fit better cells into the existing housings/dimensions.

Time for a bit of CAD (Cardboard Aided Design) I think.

It's a lot of money though, nearly twice the price of a second Bosch battery.

Yes, but then I'd be carrying a battery in my backpack. Do you think that's a good idea, given how often I part company with the bike?
