Newbie in need of guidance and advice

Hi folks,

Posting from the Southern part of Finland, pretty flack country with similar weather to the UK.

No e-bike yet but one hell of a burn for a scoot. Tried to ”narrow” my options to the Whyte 150, Propain Ekono and the YT. Also the Levo AL is still on the list.

Mostly wondering about battery range, does one really need the north of 600 battery or is the 500 enough for, say, a half days rumble?

Also as it is quit wet around here for most of the year, how do the e-mtb cope with wet conditions or/and washing it all the tim under running water.

Hoping to sort these issues out with help from this community.

If it's flat, you'll get considerably more range than if you're climbing. Though obviously 700wh will give you a larger range still than a 500wh.

For wetness .. being sensible when washing, keeping it somewhere dry - or where it can dry after you've ridden/washed/drowned. I normally use a battery leaf blower (carefully around electrical areas so as not to force water in) to remove as much water from everywhere, then microfibre cloth. Some people use specialist bike driers.

I've ridden all winter in the wet and had zero problems on a Specialized Kenevo. There are known moisture ingress issues with the Specialized TCU's on the newer bikes, so it's sometimes necessary to tape them up - there is a MkII version due out to rectify this.

Don't leave the bike wet for long periods.
Don't use running water near the electrical components.
Use a brush or sponge instead and dry it well afterwards.
In winter, I put a dehumidifier in my bike shed, further reducing moisture and any risk of condensation (see: UniBond AERO 360º Moisture Absorber)

Try having a play with the eBike range calculator. It's for Bosch, but it will highlight the differences you can expect in range from terrain, weather, wind, tyres, surfaces, your weight and fitness, speed you want to travel, cadence, and much more.

It's been described as being a bit like filling in an annual tax return. However, it can help you in deciding a bit better than just flipping a coin.

I've not had to do any of that on my 2019 Focus Jam2 with Shimano motor.
I've been through two winters with it.
I wash it with a watering can and a bucket of soapy water.
It lives in my garage.
I removed the motor cover for the first time last week and it took less than a minute to brush out the little bit of muck that was in there.
