New SC-EN600 display compatible with EP8?

The new SC-EN600 display is attractive to me because it allows finer control of assist levels. I am sure no one knows yet but I wonder if it will be backward compatible with the EP8.

Yes. (This was posted in error) The display will only work with the EP801. Refer to Shimano compatibility charts inked in my post below for the EP800 and EP801 motors.

Confirm, you've actually tried this display on a Shimano EP8 motor and it didn't work?

I think I'm right in saying that EP8 is the model range, and then there are now two versions; the older EP800 (e.g. as found on MY 2022 and earlier bikes) and the newer EP801 that's just been released.

So "EP8 801" in that screen grab is probably referring to the new motor only.

The old EP800 is not compatible. This information is direct from Shimano. I asked them.

It does appear the EP801 "series" is not the EP800. So the new display must work with the EP6 and the new EP8 but not the old EP8 most of us have. It is too bad because the new display supports finer control of assist levels which I find helpful on my other bikes.

that being said it does sound like there are updates for the Ep8 that might indicate they are designed to make it compatible...

There will be no update for the EP800 for all new Displays, Buttons, On-Off-Switch etc.....unfortunately....

I have already connected SW-EN600-L (disconnected SW-EM800) to SC-Em800 and EP800 Motor. It didn't work. Turns on and immediately goes off. SC-EM800 like SC-E8000 has power button and Bluetooth and SC-EN600 and SC-EN610 haven't Power button and Bluetooth. Power button and Bluetooth are located in SW-EN600-L. It's expected after connecting SW-EN600-L to SC-EM800 the system hangs because there are two power button and two Bluetooth and it's against etube project protocols. I have ordered SC-EN610 to test and connect to SW-EN600-L and to EP800. Waiting to recieve in next days. The new firmware updates for SW-EM800 and SC-EM800 have made them compatible with EP801. If they are compatible to newer CAN version why shouldn't the new display and switch be compatible to old CAN? SW-EN600-R, SW-M8150-R and RD-M8150 are all compatible with EP800, EP801 and EP6. CAN compability makes no sense.

CAN is not like a simple serial protocol. It is a network with smart devices that must put information on the bus and receive information from the bus. The devices are looking for specific requests for information for them. So just because a device can connect to a CAN bus does not mean it will respond like another device on the bus. Even if they do a similar job.
