I don’t know if this is “breaking news”
but I just heard Santa Cruz are bringing out a completely new model for ‘25 using the Bosch CX Gen5 motor and the frame will be a four bar linkage NOT VPP.
I’m not at liberty to disclose where I heard this but it’ll be coming soon.
Apologies if this is old news to others.

It’s meant to be more Enduro/trail weighing in around 22/23kg and obv a ff system. The name of the model is completely new -Valia?? Sorry I didn’t quite pick up the name from my source as he had to take a phone call but that name is pretty close.
Definitely not a rehash of Blur,Bronson,Heckler etc.
Expected in the UK next month apparently….
Prev sales of their e-bikes haven’t been too good due to not everyone wanting a Shimano or Fazua motor which is why there’s a lot of big discounts just now not only because it’s new model year again.
Think why others have moved to Bosch too despite them previously stating Shimano fitted their core strategy etc.
How many potential sales are being lost solely because of unreliability issues with existing users?
Riders can’t all be wrong surely?
This personally ruled out a LOT of potential bikes for me.

I heard something similar a while back but the SRAM motor was mentioned and the name was from an old old model. Exciting! Might get me back on a Santa Cruz.

It will be a 150/160 bike
4 bar layout ala Transition Repeater (official reason is for bigger seat post insertion depth)
Bosch gen 5 with 600w only (no 800w option, only 250w range extender)
Will be interesting how the fan boys will react to SC dropping VPP on this one...

Have a great trip out here Rob and welcome to my hometown. I live up in Bonny Doon, just above UC Santa Cruz, which has some pretty sweet trails. Maybe I will see you out there on the trails with Garen? If you are in the US for a while definitely head up to Downieville, Graeagle, Quincy, and Tahoe for some amazing riding. EMBN has gone up there a couple of times. Get in Touch with Greg Williams from Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship they won’t steer you wrong. When you are in Santa Cruz head to Lupulo in downtown for some great beers and tacos. Also check out Humble Sea Brewery just down the street from Santa Cruz bikes headquarters. Also head down from Bonny Doon into Felton to the Emerald Mallard and Humble Sea for some great food and drinks.

Please PM me and let’s try to meet for a pint and feel free to reach out if you need more info.

Thanks so much for the info! Super helpful. I rode some UC trails earlier this year. If I remember, K2, sweetness and a few others. Also went over to a place called Demo(?) which had some great trails!

Only there for a short trip this time but back that way in October :)

Nice! You probably went to So Cal Demo Forest which is up behind Aptos which is a small town off of Hwy 1 between Santa Cruz and Watsonville. Demo forest has a flow trail and a few others like Braille trail and Tractor trail. Few others as well.

There are some much better e-bike trails (in my opinion) up in Bonny Doon which is just up Empire grade road from Santa Cruz Bikes. A big variety of terrain with picturesque redwoods to desert like manzanita shrubs with views down to the ocean. Fast flow type trails with smooth natural flow to moderately technical single track rocky trails with stream crossings, steep wooden bridges with drops, jump lines, and with few riders on them during the week days.

You can choose small quick loops to tune suspension to very long loops with great e-bike power uphill sections to check bike capability. All of these trails can be connected to the trails in Wilder Ranch or can connect into some of the trails you may have ridden above the UC Santa Cruz campus.

If you park just above Smith Grade off of Empire Grade road in the “Bro Zone” parking area. You can spend all day on some amazing ebike trails or drop down some fast single track all the way to the beach or to the Humble Sea brewery right down the street from SCB.

You can ride up a new trail called Up Dog, which connects to Juggs or to Crankcase. These are really good trails for e-bikes. From the top of crankcase you can drop down some steep tech “woodwork bridge” trails (like they have in Canada) back down to smith Grade near your vehicle. Other option is to ride some longer loops by connecting to a trail called Dog Leash connecting to Barking Dog which is a technical trail with log rolls, berms and jumps which leads back down to smith grade. You can “Yo Yo” up and down some other trails most of the day from the Bro Zone parking area.

Of course you can cross over Smith Grade to ride D Cups and take that to Wood cutters trail to get to Red Mailboxes trail and Fenceline trail which punches out by an old Lime Kiln which is very photogenic by the way. From here you can fly down some really cool trails down to the bluffs above the ocean and connect to the brewery form there.

So many choices if you know where to go.

I’m free tomorrow and Tuesday if you need a guide or I can meet for a coffee/pint and show you on a map. Garen from SCB is basically my neighbor. I live near all these trails riding from my house near Pineridge off empire grade road.

Let me know and if this trip doesn’t work out then maybe we will see you in October.

Cheers!

It's also interesting how they're forcing that bike to slot in between the Heckler SL and Bullit/Heckler as it's 600wh only.

Anyway, I'm surprised Santa Cruz are releasing a completely new eMTB instead of releasing an updated Bullit with Bosch Gen 5/800wh considering the amount of people waiting for that bike.

Maybe they realized there is a bike like this already in the market - Crestline :)

Crestline is boutique and are moving low volume of bikes, their market share must very, very low compared to Santa Cruz.

It'll be interesting to see if SC will be moving the updated Bullit/Heckler to 4bar or stay with VPP.

If they move away the Crestline could remain the only VPP eMTB with a Bosch system.

Based on current pricing a £6.8k Bullit with a gen 5 motor and a 800wh battery is considerably cheaper than a Crestline
You think new model will be priced as discounted old model? Based on just released acustic Santas, New emtb prices will as high as they used to be before discounts.
