New Rider, should I consider the Whyte e180 over Specialized Turbo Levo Comp?

Alright all, I’m Gilb first time in a forum and first time buying an EMB. I’m trying like everyone else to buy the right bike first time... due to availability and reviews my budget is being stretched from £4K up to £5.5 which I’m still unsure about but the bigger batteries, bigger motors push me towards these 2!
Although we do visit Cannock Chase and the likes it’s also not unusual to go out riding flat smooth trails all day with my son for 6-8 hrs at a time. Hence my concern on batterie size and a motor that doesn’t lag too much if it runs of juice
Can anyone help with a comparison of the two or anything other suggestions I should consider. ??

Sounds like you need two bikes. No matter what you have I don't think you will get 6 to 8 hours of riding even on eco and a larger battery. If mostly on smooth flat trails might as well use an analogue bike for that and get something that caters to your more aggressive type trail riding.

Folks are achieving decent ranges on the Spesh SL, and it feels more or less like a normal bike when the motor is not assisting.

I looked at the E180 as well as the E150. I ended up with a Levo Expert - but I'm changing the airshaft in the fork to 160mm.

I regularly ride trails and bike parks with bigger jumps/drops than Cannock Chase - have had no problems with running out of suspension which made the 180 seem a bit overbiked for my needs, which is also why I didn't decide on the Kenevo.

The Levo does everything I need - smooth trails, singletrack, bike parks.

Not sure I could achieve 6-8 hours of riding even in Eco with the assistance turned down. As Zimmerframe says, its really down to the surface/elevation changes plus tyres and all sorts.

I was attracted to the Whyte, but chose the Levo as
  • LBS support
  • Battery easily removeable for charging
I reckon that if the above wasn't an issue I would have been just as happy with the Whyte

If range is your major concern I can say that the Levo Comp with 700 wh battery is easily capable of decent 50 + mile rides.

I recently did 63 miles with 6000 ft of climb at an average speed just over 11mph and still had 40 % battery remaining.

So far as other factors affecting your choice they are purely subjective, but I can say I'm very happy with my Levo.

For what it's worth, I too had narrowed down my choice to two bikes and finally made the purchase last week - the Turbo Levo Comp. In the end, the 700 w/hour battery and the local bike shop support and service won the day. Very happy with my choice. After one week of riding there were a number of little things which I wanted adjusted and the shop did so with a smile, and gave me very useful advice as well. The Bose Mag S motor is incredibly quiet, which is an added bonus. and the 90 nm of torque is ... there are no words. Almost neve even need the "Turbo" level - as the "Trail" level gets me everywhere I need to go. Honestly, and at least for now, this bike is amazing.

I have left the settings as factory defaults, I ride mainly in Eco using Trail for medium climbs and Turbo only for the real short sharp "killer" climbs.
I rarely switch to Off as I find if I don't need any assistance I'm above the 15 mph cutoff.
