Levo Gen 2 New Motor- lacks punch

Hi Levo owners.

So I was in the fortunate or not so fortunate to get a new motor last week.

Is it my imagination or are the updated motors not as powerful as the 2.1 motors ?
I know they the same motor with some tweaks... could it be the software that is neutering the motor to feel less punch than the original.

I went to my setting and set it to one of the presets I had, so everything is the same.
Could I be missing something?

I think it was in 7.4.2 ? that they changed the mapping for acceleration response.

Quite a few people found they had to move upto 100 to get the same as the old 40.

So if you're old motor had an older firmware that would cause it, or they may have changed the acceleration mapping again to make it even softer/smoother.

So I took the bike out, found a hill and maxed out everything 100/100 100acc 100shuttle .

as I went up a hill I was monitoring the battery draw. I could not get it higher than 18.6ah

In another thread it was stated that the gen 1 motor would draw 20ah at maximum.

Does anyone know what the current draw for the 2.2 motor should be at max load ?

Other thread stated that sometimes the firmware would default to the Brose settings .. (giving a lower power draw) vs the specialised firmware that was 20 ah on the gen1

if someone could be so kind and do the test on a gen2+ motor and see what your max current is? you can use the mission control app ... then diagnostics then battery ...

I can understand why they would do that. must be costing spec a fortune replacing motors. Was just disappointed when I got on and my bike did not feel as fun as it did the week before (after the new 2.2 motor)
I suppose with it drawing a max of 18.6Amps I should get more range

They introduced voltage compensation (also on 7.4.2 I think). Instead of having low performance when the voltage dropped (low battery) it could pull more current so you received similar performance until flat. At the time most people who tested were still pulling 720 to 740w max, so about 20amps. Will be higher as the charged battery is over 36v. (42 ish) If you're pulling 18.6 amps at full charge, then you could still be pulling 780w !

They did say as part of the voltage compensation they'd taken a tiny bit off the fully charge state to balance out the range, so that would make sense. It doesn't mean they've not tweaked that with subsequent updates and it takes more off the full charge to give more power/range later on.

my son just had a new motor installed in his 2021 Levo Comp. I had a short go on it just on the road outside his house.........heck.....it felt like it was in turbo in every mode!! My bikes are all Bosch Gen4 but had a Levo previously but had forgot just how much power the Brose motor produces at lower cadences. The Gen4 power delivery is more progressive and needs to reach a higher cadence before you get the same response.

Go to mission control,

set everything to max, then ride while watching the diagnose screen under battery. will tell you how much current is drawn in real time. the most you will get is 20A , mine was getting 18.6 before the reflash
And what speed and gear were you in? Is yours derestricted as I'm only seeing 14.6ish on a derestricted levo gen 3 after New motor install

.....which suggests to me the firmware has detected and defeated the derestrictor by limited the watts it is prepared to deliver. You will only know if the motor is defective or you derestrictor is to blame if you repeat the test with the derestrictor removed.

But It doesn't max out though at 15mph like a restricted bike does without a derestrior. It simply doesn't have as much power as before, surely if a none restricted bike kicks out 20amp, then it should still do this on a derestricted one surely?

I am surmising that most deristriction preventative measures consist of algorithms in the firmware that detects abnormality of performance...and it deals with it by putting the bike into a holding mode forcing investigation via the LBS web connection to rectify. Of course I know no more than you but this is exactly what the Engine Management Units in cars do when they get a sensor alert of some sort ( the red light of death on the dash!!)

I have had this on 2 separate occasions.
Only way to verify out put is to read max. Amps under high load.
Mine also went from 18.6A up to 20.4A after reflash.
I do believe Spesh. has reduced the aggressiveness of the tunes to prolong motor life over time.
My 2018 gen1 motor is way more punchy than my 22 Kenevo.

I believe they've done it aswell as do all others who've had this issue after either a motor replacement or update. Spoken with tge bike shop who's name must not be mentioned 🙄

As per, they're totally denying spesh would ever do such a thing and everyone on the Internet is talking rubbish. All I know is I'm really pissed at spending 10 grand on a bike that is no better than an analogue bike.

Spoke with specialized today and they checked all the settings on mission control, apparently the peak power was only set at 30%. They seem to think this was the problem as prior to the motor replacement, it was at 50%.



know i set this at 50 but for some unknown reason it keeps going back to 30%. Any idea what may be causing this to not stay on 50% ?
