For those that don't know, Cotic is very well regarded maker of Steel FS and Hardtail bikes from the UK. The differing models are much loved, and this has seemingly been in development for quite some time.

No doubt rides amazingly, and as they say: 'you can't see the bike once you are riding it'

Looks aside, it's far too expensive compared to others, you'd have to really want a steel ebike to pay that much for it.

The fact it looks like a deliveroo/just eat special makes the price even more challenging to swallow.

I'm sure it rides well though, and those that do buy it will be very happy with it.

I really like steel bike and have a famous one the Honzo ESD - a beautiful baby

That said ... I like steel bike for their thin tubes, this is a blasphemy to me to put a big bulky battery like that - that's only me.

I also think that to be able to support that I would have like at least 750wh.

Definitely a niche market but I will keep a close eye on them!

I think they should have leaned into it and joked about how it's an ebike when you are riding by yourself or with close friends, but can be run without the battery on uplift days and will ride downhill like the best steel bike ever made.

I actually think it's a shame more brands don't try to make frames for external batteries, but that one truly looks terrible.

You make me wonder about something here, would it be possible with such design to have a swap BB too?

Like an sort of steel part that would take place of the motor, using the same fixation but in a way more light way obviously.

Bike then could be emtb or mtb on demand assuming you know how to bolt and torque.

Not sure how it would render nor if the weight would be that beneficial but having the possibility to convert it - correctly - would be magic to me.

I saw this on Facebook this morning when I got up and to be honest, all I could think about was that it looks like it came out of the mid-2010's.
It's so old-fashioned looking. If it were 1/4 of the price, maybe I could forgive the looks, but there's no attempt to make it attractive at all.
Surely Cotic's core market aren't looking at this and saying "Wow, I must have that". I can't imagine Cotic's core market looking at any eBike and saying that, but especially this monstrosity.

While a steel eMTB is not a travesty, my first e efforts were kit motors on steel frames with external batteries and I have fond memories of where they took me. However where I ended up is with a FS Carbon model and I'm not going back....

Minus the battery I think it's a really clean looking bike. I'm not mad at the idea of any external battery, but they could have done better with it's aesthetics.

But the price appreciate it's a boutique brand but damn that's going to be hard to justify in the current market.

Yes , think its a hard sell , and maybe a step too far for Cotic and their normal audience.
I have a soft spot for them, steel frame , had a number of steel hard tails in my time , and for external batteries , my first EMTB being a Vitus E Sommet VR, I like the simplicity of charging and removing.
In my opinion it is over priced for the market , get the boutique brand and UK manufacturing costs for small companies , but when you see what is available , if you want example , using Shimano EP801 , Only small sizes now on discount...
But fair play to Cotic for being different and following their own path , wish them well

I would argue than brands are really trying right now to limit looses and do not go with huge stock. They are still learning lesson from past years.

Better having less stock and sell than having to sell them -35% one year later and let's be honest with ebike the percentage can drastically go down as it moves fast.

I’ve just been watching the Guy Kesteven first ride videos on YouTube and by all accounts it rides really well.

I have a Cove steel hardtail in the workshop that I still ride, I even electrified it at one point with a TSDZ2 setup and a bottle battery.

My interest led me to click on the link to the Cotic Rocket E, and then I saw the price… Would it be too harsh to say it seems about £5k too much?

In the videos I watched, Cy the owner of Cotic said he’ll be delighted if they shift a couple of hundred a year. I bet he would, and good luck with it.

In homage to it, I might take the Switch SL out today which is now running the TSDZ2 kit on the Cove above. I think I did a better job of integrating the battery…

I guess maintaining that sort of ride feel was a priority, which you aren't going to get from a big alloy down tube to house an internal battery. Would love to try one of these and like the ability to have a light smaller battery as well as something for bigger days.

The company tries to do things responsibly, UK manufacture where possible, pays people properly, invests in grass roots ventures and tries to be environmentally responsible where it can. All that stuff costs. I don't think Cy'll be buying a yacht of the back of these. Sadly out of my budget range for now.

Yep, I’m similar, would love to try one and like to support UK companies where possible, but if that’s the price for doing so then sadly I’m out.

Why not put the battery below the downtube to shift the weight? It's already a hideous bike, so they might as well maximize function.
