New bike day

Picked this up last Saturday got it setup and went to BPW on Sunday very impressed with it rides really well for the base model

Nice, I paid almost double that for my RSX last week, could have gotten it cheaper using Cycle 2 work but didnt want to wait

I mentioned this last week.
I was killing time waiting for my rear wheel rim to be straightened when I walked past "Cash Converters" (it's a bit like a pawn shop). It had two brand-new looking mtbs outside so I went inside to see what else they had. I saw a rough looking jumble of bikes in a corner with the one at the back having curly bars. I asked the manager to extract it and gave it a looking over. What I had in mind was a commuter bike for my grandson who has just started work.

The drop-handled road bike from Pinnacle didn't look good, the filthy chain was trailing on the floor, the whole drive train looked as though it had not been cleaned, ever! The tape binding on the bars was torn. The top tube and downtube had stickers and remnants of stickers from times past. The bike was black but it looked dull, dull, dull. From the stickers I could see that the bike had started out at £250 and had gone down in stages and was currently at £150. Without me asking, the manager knocked it down to £100. I reckon I must have been the first person for ages to show any interest.

The wheel bearings felt fine, as did the bottom bracket. Headset felt fine too. The brakes worked well and the wheels looked OK to me. I wasn't even sure how the shifters were supposed to work, let alone whether they were working or not. I sure as hell wasn't going to touch that chain! I wasn't dressed for oily hands.

I have never owned or even ridden a drop handled road bike, but I thought for a £100, I couldn't go too far wrong. I wheeled it round to the bike shop to pick up my rear wheel to be met with "it looks like you've spent too much time in Newark today" (or similar). I left it to him to give it the once over.

I picked it up yesterday and he'd fitted two new gear cables, set up the shifting, repaired the torn bar tape and took it for a test ride. His verdict was that it was a really nice commuter bike, and that I'd done OK.

Today I cleaned it up, got all the muck off it, removed all the old stickers (which took a lot more time that I thought it would) and gave the bike a wipe over with a black car wax. Tomorrow I will touch up two paint chips and a scratch on the chain stays. Then I'll put it away until Xmas. Behold! a Pinnacle Dolomite 5.

Yuk..but that's my opinion of any road bike

I fixed the stone chips and scratches today. The bike looks even better now. Wondering whether to give it to my grandson now rather than make him wait until Xmas?

To be fair that's a great Christmas present ..and I'm sure he will be well pleased ..
