Had delivery last week, Torque:ON cf Roczen.

I’ve been riding a Trek Rail5 but stupidly bought it as a medium size and shortly discovered I needed a large so started looking for a frame to convert, while the rail is a good bike the search for newer and shiny toys overcame common-sense (also having seen Canyon had a significant discount / price reduction on some models I was unable to resist 🫢

Go big or go home?

So, Zeb ultimate forks, super deluxe ultimate coil damper, SRAM X0 Eagle AXS Transmission, reverb Axs dropper post. Ep801 motor, 900wh battery and SRAM code rsc brakes with a colour scheme I’ve nicknamed the ‘mobile granite worktop’ 😜

Before the weekend’s rides it had a spannercheck and conversion to tubeless as well as a general familiarisation with the electronic dropper / shifter systems and drive / display units.

Future fiddlin will include fitting SRAM Maven brakes (currently on my Rail, will use the Code rsc’s already on the Torque to familiarise with the bike and might as well use what’s already working) and I’m evaluating the forks
Against my favoured Manitou Mezzer forks but that’s for future considerations….

So, what’s it like? Different to the rail but a different bike with different geometry and suspension travel, noticeable is the lower bb hight on the Canyon. The
900wh battery gave 25 miles ride in Bpw Saturday pedalup running in ‘tour’ as I didn’t need the full power & as an economy ride (my first experience of the Shimano motor) and another 20 miles on Sunday without problems

Post-Sunday ride mud covered bike.

I’m going to order the rear mudguard from Canyon, hopefully minimise the crap covering the suspension

Happy new bike😎

Yes (y)

BUT the low bb can cause annoying pedal-strikes especially if you do a lot of pedaling (25 miles today pedalup / ride down @ Bpw)

Lastnight I ordered some 145mm cranks from pinnd (standard fit are 165mm?)

Rich.
So did you get the 145 cranks

random boredom attacked me while I'm not riding due to injury (broken heel etc.) so indulged in retail therapy 🤭

I'd been interested in fork ugrade from the Zeb ultimate (180mm travel) as specc'd by Canyon but I'm a fan of a different suspension brand so couldn't resist😜

VQMHB1y.jpeg

bought a new Manitou Dorado Pro fork for a great price on ebay, the Dorado is travel adjustable from 203mm down to 180mm so (I've singlecrown Mezzer forks that I used on my Rail5 & they are travel adjustable between 140mm & 180mm)

Dorado's have axle to crown length of 602mm for 203mm travel whereas the Zeb's have axle to crown length of 596mm for 180mm travel I'd have expected the Dorado to have been taller but the Torque:ON is a sorta freeride / downhill bike so has a high front.

I've reserched into limiting the Dorado's travel while maintaining the a2c hight by fitting a spacer on the pistonshaft between the blue anodised spacer and rubber bumpstop to raise the bottomout / rubber bumpstop position by 20mm (I need to make this spacer, will have dimensions of 15mm outside diameter, 10mm internal diameter and 20mm long)

but, nothing is without complications and this was no exception, fitting twincrown forks on a bike with a tall headstock is going to be interesting & add to the fun of stepping-down from 1.5" lower bearing to 1 1/8" also in the mix......

OYOl8vF.jpg

the Torque has Internal Cable Routing so rear brake hose and motor control wire runs through the headset.

further complication is the power-adjust wire runs through the handlebar so bodgery was to be done🤨

JkeBUYA.jpg

ebay supplied a cheap Oneup dm stem so I modified it with a dremel type thing and a rotary burr type cutter, naturally I had to slip and leave a scrape along the surface...

S1toFp6.jpg

went for a slightly larger groove than needed to allow the wire space to float...

rRa997Z.jpg

sorta finished item:cool:

next job is swapping rear brakes from Sram Code RSC to Maven so fun pulling the hose through the frame & chainstay:cautious:

Dorado's finally fitted, tried the supplied mudguard BUT it's a little too motorcross for my liking 🤭

then, I've bought a Manitou Mara Pro 225x70 Trunnion rear airshock again cheap enough on ebay BUT it's coming from somewhere in the USA so ebays global shipping programme in action(y)

photo from ebay listing.

these have a few diffrent adjustments - negative / positive Air Pressure & volume, Rebound, HS and LS Compression. Work / Party Mode'

^^ Note the 'Work / Party Mode' - sold it for me😜

why this over one of the more common offerings? well I've had the more basic Mara 'inline' on my Trek Rail and found it exellent so decided to try one of these on my Canyon, unfortuntely they are uncommon here in the UK so need importing - something I've done repeatedly with Hayes / Manitou's products but definately wort the extra work:cool:

BUT, will the airsprung Mara be any better than the RockShox Super Deluxe Coil Ultimate & Sprindex coilspring I already have fitted:unsure:

so, just had an email from Canyon.....

lqw5kRR.png

seems that this has gone out to all owners of affected batterys so Spectral:ON and Torque:ON - good that they've accepted a problem exists but not good for owners wanting to ride (I'm injured so not riding for about a month :cautious: )

@Ribinrobin, I've no more Manitou related content to share and have not managed to drag the bike outside due to being on crutches and unstable🤭

more to follow sometime😜

Fucknose, it's been stopped in US customs and ebay have refunded me so adding the battery issue & US customs I'm not likely to know for a while

on the plus side, the bikes millage is still low (not helped by my bad-hoof situation) and overall condition is staying good:ROFLMAO:
