The Turbo Levo FSR 6 Fattie / 29 is looking favourite at the moment. Being a techno luddite I don't have a smart phone , (just a dumb phone). Could you tell me if this will limit the use of the Levo or should I take another look at the Trek range?

Not using a smart phone stops you adjusting power levels for the three modes, you will be stuck with whatever the defaults are. For what it’s worth, I still haven’t got around to pairing a phone with mine and have happily been riding it for a couple of months.

Interesting question. I was more than happy with the standard power settings when I got mine, whilst it is nice to be able to hone the settings it isn't a show stopper. I have since fiddled though. I love fiddling.
However, if you get the bike serviced etc at the dealer, and you don't like an upgrade/update which can change the way it rides (quite a long thread on here of disgruntled folk who didn't like an update), you are unable to change the settings back to your preferred power delivery.

I would say get the bike you want, and if it is the Levo get a smartphone off eBay for 30 quid, just in case you need to reset the power settings. You won't need a phone contract or simcard, just wifi and then bluetooth.
Or even easier, buy the bike, and if you find in the future you need to reset the power settings get a cheap eBay phone or get a mate to do it with their phone.

Could you not use a cheap tablet....If you don't own one? Tablets are cheap if you stay away from Apple

Without using the app you will miss some nice features but since you can't fiddle with the power settings on all other e-mtbs as well, without a smartphone/tablet, it makes absolutely no difference. The standard settings are fine, so no big deal. If you want to change them in future, you could let the dealer do it, or a friend to download the app and connect, or get a cheap android device for yourself.

Without the bluetooth application on a phone or tablet you will have a great bike, as good as Bulls or Trek but actually better suspension in my ride tests. The Turbo Levo has the best ride to me. All that said adding the Specialized Command application to any tablet or phone and connecting it will allow you to tailor the bike to be what you want it to be. I highly recommend using the Blevo application as it is even more detailed and delicate in it's ability to tune the bike. Setting how the power comes on and off and at what level in addition to your own leg power. One way to approach this is to buy a used smart phone on ebay and do not activate it as a cell phone. Connect it only on a wi-fi network to download the Mission Control or Blevo application from the play store or apple store and then connect that phone to the Turbo Levo to monitor and adjust. I took an old somewhat broken phone and velcroed it to the handlebars for my first ride and the ability to see my power, bike power and have the Blevo application annunciate verbally my battery level and assistance level while riding made it more than any other ebike I have tried. I've ridden several brands of bikes and the Brose is my favorite, Specialized Turbo Levo my favorite and Bulls my second choice. On the application and smart phone front I like any old android phone and the Blevo application. This bike takes 10 years off of you in Eco mode, 20 years off in Trail and 30 years off in Turbo mode. Remember what it was like back then, it's a time machine for older or injured riders. Ride on!

I'm a bit late here, but I have a LEVO FSR 27.5" fatty tyres, my friend has a Levo HT 29" tyres, I have smart phone, my friend does not have a mobile phone at all. & sadly I struggle to beat him , but if you think you need improvement or change in your tune, for say more or less eco power, or you need improved range. I would be very surprised if your LBS would not be able to tailor a tune with there own smart phone for you. just depends on what your using bike for. also note my 2018 comp carbon is heavier than my friends 2017 levo HT ( found out when had to lift both over a locked gate )
