Motor change accompanied by less range.

Just had my motor and display changed under warranty. (Motor had the “Predator” noise).
Before it went in for the replacement, the display used to show a mileage range on a fully charged battery, of 50miles on the lowest assist level. Now with the new motor the range shown on the screen has dropped to 38 miles.
The lowest assist level in both cases was the factory default. So I assumed the range would be the same.
Anyone got a suggestion why such a significant drop in range?

May be adaptive, ride and see if there's any real life change in range.

The range display changes based on a few things.

1. If you have the Trek Central app running on your phone and connected to the motor the range displayed on the bike uses topography data from the app on the phone to (in theory) show a more accurate range.

2. If no phone connected then the display uses data from previous rides to estimate the range. So now you have a new motor it probably has used default values rather than historic data.

Either way I wouldnt worry about it, I don't think anything has really changed. The range number is always a nonsense in my experience, and is never accurate unless you ride on the flat all the time.
