It’s been a long time coming but finally all planets are in alignment and I’ve got a Merida eOne Forty on order and picking up as soon as I get my cycle to work voucher. I’ve gone for the pretty basic 500 model. I’ll be honest it wasn’t my first choice but due to supply issues beggars can’t be choosers just now. However seeing it in the flesh it’s a gorgeous bike and cannot wait to pick it up. Also the more I read up on it the more im liking it.

i ride mainly blue/red route at Glentress but def prefer fast and flowy as opposed to rock, rooty technical descents so think the 140 shock will be plenty enough for me. Currently ride a hard tail with only 120 on the front so this will be a huge step up.

Is it pretty straight forward to update to the display to the sc-8000? Mine comes with the Sc-e500 but think the 8000 with the separate left hand switch just looks so much nicer.
Anyway can’t wait to get out and hit some trails.

Looks like your bike comes with the EP8 motor and SC-E5003 display unit. You can hot swap those to the SC-EM800 screen and SW-EM800L switch.

Note theses are *800* series parts. You can't directly hook up the older *8000* series parts, unless you have the older SC-E5000 screen (but according to what I could find you have the newer screen). Be careful. The old and new screens look identical, but aren't, so double check.

thanks for the headsup I had a look and yes it’s very easy to get the 8000 and 800 mixed up.

Ive had my eOne Forty 500 since January and absolutely love it. I see many $10k+ bikes (mainly Levos, what a rip off they are in Aus) on my local trails and there is nothing that they can do that the almost half price eOne Forty 500 cant! It isn't too gravity specialised so it can do everything comfortably.

I did have a rear shock failure after 100km that caused the chambers to equalise - deemed manufacturing fault and replaced with a 2.5 week wait. My dealer mentioned that there had been at least 5 of them fail around Australia so looks like a bad batch and something to keep an eye on.

The SC-5003 works fine, however due to no bluetooth/ANT lacks the configurability and connectivity. The older screens and switches can still be used with an EW-AD305. Sure the EM800s can be used but damn are they pricey aftermarket.

Other options include:

EW-SD300 cable from EP8 -> EW-AD305 -> EWSD50-150mm -> SC-E7000 -> SW-E7000-L

EW-SD300 cable from EP8 -> EW-AD305 -> EWSD50-150mm -> EW-EN100 -> SW-E7000-L and use a Garmin Edge for the display.

Im probably going to do the second as I do a lot of dilapidated mine tracks and the Garmin would be better than the map board and paper maps I currently use!

Enjoy your new ride!

Thanks Studley thats really useful info. I agree re price of other bikes and especially the new Levo! Levo is a great bike though, I've spent a couple of days hiring one at my local trail centre and it was awesome but the reliability issues put me off. I'm sure the e140 will be a more capable bike than I'm a rider! Will keep an eye out on the rear shock thanks for the heads up.

I've had mine (an e140 ltd - budget model) for over a year. I've been riding black tracks for a while now, and was starting to get into jumps and drops. I'm back riding again after a 4 month break - so not back into the jumps again yet. I ride for about 3hrs - for me a fair share of technical stuff, some of it I have to session. I'd probably get an e160 next - shock is less than 150mm even then. I don't mind limitations though and I'm still learning and getting the most I can out of the bike :). Yes, you will love it.

Picked up today. Absolutely love it. The motor is so quiet compared to the Bosch and the Brose. Feels a lot more natural. Just on local trails today, can’t wait to get this to my local trail centre.
