Maxxis ignoring eMTBs?

I did the first time. But things won’t always be the same. Although there wasn’t a need for slowness ?

And when the covid cloud lifts they will want their share of the growing market I’m sure.

FWIW, I'm using 29x2.6 EXO+ 3C Assegai/DHR2 with a Cushcore in the back and after working out what pressures work for me (28/31), I want for nothing using that combo (I'm 95kg on an Orbea Wild).

Bear in mind I'm in Brisbane, Australia (sub-tropical) where I'm most riding in really dusty conditions. Locks of rock, roots and no thorns. "Loose over hardpack" as Maxxis like to say could not describe our trails better. Flats are a non issue for me, and I beat on these tires and rims pretty good!

I love Maxxis for MTB tires - super dependable, easy to seat, never any defects. When I see these quality complaints on forums it makes me think you get them from a very different factory for Europe. Only when I've strayed from Maxxis have I had issues with tires. Schwalbe/Michelin/Conti I've had issues with them all - using only a very small number of each. To be fair for Schwalbe my issues were mostly just a being pain to inflate, and floppy feeling sidewalls, they did roll fast though. Michelin and Conti I've had material defects with.

I used to standardize on Maxxis 2.5s. Since I got the Orbea though, and noting that it's noticeably longer travel than I used to ride, I do think the 2.6 is better. Suits the bike, it's a monster truck. I just throw this bike into piles of whatever and it sorts it out. Liking the 2.6 more could well be somewhat to do with the dust we have to deal with here though, and trying to get knobs to cut through it. It could well be because I'm a bit more portly than I'd like to be too.

I can fully imagine a 25 year old fit 72kg version of me racing on a 15kg Enduro bike liking the 2.5s more.

2.6 - 3" tires were popular for a short time, especially with new riders but quickly lost favor among experienced riders as the weight tradeoff meant that they were either pigs, or too fragile, and also the bulk meant that they were not precise enough for most people. All top DH racers are on 2.5" or smaller tires with inserts for good reason.

Yeah, the "plus" tire fall out of fashion really fast. But recent Schwalbe 2.6" tires are not plus tires, but more like real 2.5" when mounted on a typical 30mm rim. I would say 2.6" for FF eMTB is what 2.5" is to an acoustic bike.

Does anyone else here feel that Maxxis is ignoring eMTBs? They only offer paper thin EXO+ tires in 2.6" width. What is missing are 2.6" DoubleDown and Downhill tires which would be more suitable for heavy eMTBs. Their popular 2.4" and 2.5" tires are incredibly low volume and narrow on a full power eMTB.

Certainly not ignoring emtbs like has already been said. MAXXIS are one of the most widely specced tire brands in the high-end eMTB sector (MAXXIS E‑Mountainbike Tires in Review | E-MOUNTAINBIKE Magazine)

My 2021 high spec Rocky Mountain Powerplay also came with Maxxis DHF DD and DHR II DD, but 2.5 and 2.4 respectively, and Rimpact inserts.

The all new 2022 same high spec RM emtb I understand comes with same widths but Maxxis Assegai in front and Cushcore inserts.

If that setup is good enough for their pro enduro teams (both analog and emtb teams) I think it’s good enough for a casual emtb-er. You may have specific reasons to want something wider for your usage, but I think the width is deliberate, and the inserts not a compromise, and at least it has personally been better to me and my rides than my last high-end emtb which came with same-pattern other-brand 2.6 front and rear.
