I currently have 29 x 2.6 smart sams fitted to my rims, the standard tyres that came with the bike. ( reaction hybrid Sl 2021)
Does anyone know what is the maximum tyre width that will fit on the rim/bike.
Bike is boost front & rear.

It is determined by the inner rim width of your wheels........tyre suppliers recommend the ideal for various tyres. If it is running 2.6 currently the inner rim width is probably 30.
There is also the issue of clearance between the chainstays, between the tyre and the seat post or chainstay cross member in front of it, and also clearance of the fork stancions.
Just to further complicate things for you, manufacturer specs of width of their tyres is rarely accurate!
Not sure why you want to go bigger than 2.6 anyway??

The sams are almost shot. So i was looking at other options.
The front wouldn't be an issue. But as you mention the rear might.
Ill stick with the 2.6s and look for a better tyre.

HI, out of interest what kind of range have you got out of your tyres?

I'm running stock Maxis Assegai front/ DHR rear both max terra compound on my 2021 TM 160, they are grippy but nearly worn out after 900miles of forest trail/tarmac riding.

I was going to try Schwalbe and compare range/durability

Around 600 miles, but at least 400 miles are are on tarmac.
So maybe not the best comparison for off road use.
I use the bike mainly for commuting, but I'm looking to have a second set of wheels for off road use.

I’ve put 3600 miles on my Nobby Nic’s, riding on fire roads, bike parks, tracks, woods and tarmac, so if you want a tyre that‘ll do a decent mileage, I’d say those are pretty good!

If I remember rightly when I bought my Stereo 160 last year the shop tried to fit a 2.6 on the rear to set it up tubeless, (the original tyre wouldn’t seat properly so they took a different one, not Maxxis, off the shelf to replace it), I can’t remember the exact tyre they tried but anyway it was too wide and it rubbed so they ended up putting a 2.4 specialized butcher on. Goes to show that, a bit frustratingly, the width size doesn’t always mean much and that’s not so helpful ?

Out of curiosity how are the Hans Dampfs performing and holding up?

What did you fit to your bike Alexbeck?

I’m looking to swap out the Smart Sams from my cube stereo as they’re not grippy enough, especially on the rear - they slid way too easily for my liking..

I was happy enough with the Hans Dampf’s but found the rear a little loose on grip switched to Magic Mary front and back as I went Tubeless and I am very happy with them. Will keep Hans Dampf’s for backup
