Loose lock nut on crank arm

The lock nut has come loose and I can't figure out how to remove the crank arm so as to get to the bolt to tighten it. I can bang it a bit tight with a screwdriver but this isn't optimal, clearly!
1) Do I have to undo the crank arm from the other side and pull the whole thing out?
2) Does anyone know what spec of spanner I'd need to get to the bolt and tighten the lock nut please?

Just use an allen key to remove the crank and use the appropriate lock ring tool* to tighten it up.

*search the Inet for "yamaha pw-x lock ring tool"

You don’t say what your set up is.

My bike has a Bosch motor e*thirtten cranks. From your basic photo it looks like the same set up.

So you need to remove the screw from the centre of the crank arm – off the top of my head I think that’ll be an 8mm allen key.

Once you have that removed you need to pull the crank off. You should now be able to see the fine outer thread from where you removed the screw.

To pull the crank off all you need is a good old fashioned taper crank puller.

So if none of that makes sense, then have a look at this and it should all make sense,


Watch the video, then have a look at your bike and you’ll know if that’ll work.

Finally, there should be a torque setting stamped on your sprocket retaining nut.

Thanks, that's just the name of the tool I was looking for the lock ring.

I can't get the crank off though: the chainring side allen bolt rotated a little with a lot of resistance but nothing is undoing.

I could only find one video that's a bit like the Praxis cranks on the Giant at HERE but the crank simply won't unscrew even with me using a foot.

You have to overcome the force to use the built-in crank removal mechanism.
Maybe you want to spray some WD40 there and wait 24 hours and/or use a heat gun to loose it up.
Or you get it to a Bike Shop to get the job done.
