Ok, cool. So the most likely cause for your motor issue is that the right hand crankshaft needle roller bearing is seized. Putting some oil in there kind of proved this point. I can’t think of anything the bike shop would have done, just by changing the chain? They didn’t get the bike wet either, so I am guessing this is just a coincidence? We see this quite often when people are riding their bikes around, send their motors in and they are seized solid when we open the box, mainly because the bearing has had a day or so to rust and dry out.

Okay thanks do you think it would be worth taking the bike to a different shop that deal with specialized and asking them for a service ?

Phew. Cheers Bearing Man for your efforts in assisting Jacobmtb.
Rest assured, I'll be in touch with you (one day) when my motors develop a problem.
As for yourself Jacobmtb, one thought did come to mind (although I wholeheartedly agree with the Bearing Man's diagnosis). Ask the bike shop how they installed the chain and whether they installed a new chainring. If they had to remove the spider by removing the lockring, chances are they may have inadvertently done something wrong.

I would speak to the dealer, he should be able to advise you based on paperwork, age, motor type etc. We don’t get involved until warranty is over.

That is in a very bad way! Your motor should be virtually silent! It sounds like the drive pulley is touching the motor cover. This could happen if the front chainring spider is pulled off without the special tool, or the bike has suffered a heavy impact on the left hand crank.
It is fixable, but do not ride it in this state.

I think as has been said, it's probably co-incidence.

They wouldn't do anything with the cranks, motor, chainring when changing the cassette. It's a fairly straightforward job.

As for the warranty.. Specialized generally seem to be fairly understanding with honouring warranties even when people have broken the rules of the warranty - or bought a bike they know has had it's warranty invalidated.

You've no option really but to try. Just be honest and explain the situation. If they do say no, either because of the de-restriction or because they think it's crash damage, there's always bearing man to fall back on so all is not lost.

Ask them to show you the special tool they used if they removed the chainring spider. This is the tool that stops you pulling the large drive pulley wheel out of the motor housing and up against the belt cover when you pull the spider off.
