As the title states, looking at getting my 9 year old an Ebike to have fun with us. He enjoys mtn biking but is wanting to get into motocross. I figure an E bike is the next best thing and won't cost as much!

This is all I found available in the USA...any reviews or info? Not much else is out there.

Dunno about in the states but Ebikes are not legal for under 14yr olds here.
Hence the sparcity of smaller wheeled Ebikes

Why not get yourselves normal bikes and ride together without assistance?

We've been riding bikes together since he could ride a strider bike. He had the opportunity to ride a friends 35hp and 40hp dirt bikes and now he's hooked on power. We rode today on our Amish bikes, but again asked about a dirt bike.

I figure E bikes and analog bikes are in the same realm and we can still ride together

I had an interesting conversation with my 13 yo a few weeks back. On the way back from a big day of mtb riding he asked why I was so resistant to him getting a motorbike - I was 13 ....

All the logical answers came out
" it's illegal for you to ride a motorbike in the bush but we can go mtb riding everywhere "
" I'm moving away from motorbikes because emtb's are so much better now"

Then I realised the truth - the last thing I want to do is spend my weekends sitting around mx tracks watching him have fun. It was fine when he was 6 yo and happy just riding around the paddock, but now he's jumping my 650 and wants a real MX bike. He's got the cash, and has proven he can maintain machinery with the paddock bomb . I figure it'll rake 2/3 days shuttling kids to find out his mates can't be converted to mtb riding and then my weekends are spent chatting to my old dirt bike mates trackside.

Realistically, if he starts getting competitive with the mtb's it's only a few months until he's tackling stuff without me - on Friday he launched into a double black rock garden I walked.....frkit.

Pdoz...exactly my point. I'm not going to spend 2-3 times that($5-7K) on a dirt bike. The friends that he let ride it are into it for a lot of of money and long weekends out of town sitting at the track in their toy hauler. There are only limited places to ride without him getting bored of going around the same track/area within an hour.

For what it's worth, I'd vote for keeping him on a really good unpowered mtb and allowing the motorbikes, hopefully he will get bored.

Exploring with mates, vs riding around the same patch of dirt...

edit - I love that picture overlooking the avon river. We'd been camping with 3 other families, my daughter us wearing the T shirt she got on her first overnight yacht race ( she was 6 at the time), the bike she is riding was originally mine but is now being used by my 13 yo son - just like my motorbike...
