What's the longest e-bike ride you've done?

My buddy & I rode the BWR California wafer course this weekend on a single battery (FLX F5 & Weapon) - 80 miles.
Epic Electric #1 - Eric R.'s 77.7 mi bike ride

I'm trying to find the best locations for epic electric rides - long day single charge adventures

adding more metrics:

There's sometimes a few interesting rides pop up in the Strava EMTB forums group.


You just need to check as some of the rides with crazy distances will be people on road bikes and 8000+ meter climbs are probably on up lifts.

There was at least one thread with chatter about it once .. a long time ago !

What was you on?

Biggest for me was 52 miles on my Heckler with a 500 battery.

The F5 I used had an 840wh battery - so that was definitely helping. But it was quite a bit of pedaling on no assistance to make that route happen.

52 miles on a 500 must be right at the limit. Did you run out of battery?

52 miles on a 500 must be right at the limit. Did you run out of battery?
Literally at my road. but relatively flat along coastal paths.

Where did you get the average incline data from?
Locus map is the app that I had, probably there are others also. It calculated the ascent distance and altitude gain on the planed route.

Once you have both it's an easy math calculation.


Percent of slope is determined by dividing the amount of elevation change by the amount of horizontal distance covered (sometimes referred to as "the rise divided by the run"), and then multiplying the result by 100.

Realistic Example nr. 1
Say you climb(Rise): 1000m=3281ft
On a distance(Run): 10.000m=32808ft

(Rise/Run)×100
(3281/32808)×100 = 10% Incline

Unrealistic Example nr. 2

Say you climb(Rise): 1000m=3281ft
On a distance(Run): 1000m=3281ft

(Rise/Run)×100
(3281/3281)×100 = 100% Incline

I think that just as rider weight, incline has a great impact on battery life.

Also I think different motor/battery combos should only be compared by average battery consumption:

Wh used per (100m/328ft) altitude. This is also pretty easy to calculate.

Say you have a 625Wh battery, climb 1000m/3281ft and use 50% of battery.

50% x 6,25Wh = 312,5Wh battery used

312,5Wh / 1000m =
= 31,25Wh per (100m/328ft) altitude

This is a way to eliminate all those questions, like...I rode that much, so far, and had 18% battery left...etc...

agreed (and also added more metrics to my original post). I used an M600 with 840 wh battery. My "feeling" was that it was pretty efficient, much more so than my hub motor ebike. Also when I was pedaling with no assist I felt like there wasn't too much added resistance, just the 60 lb bike...

What's your motor/battery setup?

What's your motor/battery setup?
It's a Giant Syncdrive Pro 2(actually a Yamaha PW-X3 with Giants firmware).

Have 2 battery's an 800Wh and a 625Wh.

I did my longest rides previos season with the motor output of the full 85Nm, as there was no way to adjust torque then. This year the app/motor had an update which enables me to adjust the torque. My first testing shows that a 25% decrease of torque to a range of 50Nm to 70Nm reduces the battery consumption on average by 3Wh/100m altitude gained.

Will see on my rides soon if I can do an even longer ride now. It's quite a struggle, even with an ebike.

Your ride distance is quite impressive, I think/feel I could reach it also, as you have a bit less elevation, only my weight is an energy eater.

Great ride Eric 😀🤜👏 I should get a cam and film my adventures also, didn't quite reach my goals, but surpassed my previous post records a few days ago twice.

More than 90% of these two rides is forest roads, access roads, fire roads, so mostly mtb terrain.

First ride started from the valley, the second one on top of the local mountain.

On ride nr. 1, I had 22% battery remaining at the end with the next stats:
Distance 104,22 km = 64,76 mi
Altitude Gain 2201 m = 7221 ft
Average speed 19,5 kmh = 12,12 mph

On ride nr. 2, I had 24% battery remaining at the end with the next stats:

Distance 112,43 km = 69,86 mi
Altitude Gain 2092 m = 6964 ft
Average speed 16,5 kmh = 10,25mph

My settings on the motor were actually not the lowest but a happy medium, or let's say the third of the available power. 40Nm to 60Nm and 100 to 175% Assistance in Giant's terms(Max is 400%).

The second ride was a challenge because I had to use walk mode on a part of the ride and had flat towards the end.

My goal was to drain the 800Wh battery and achieve 2400m of Altitude gain and 120km...so that's still in the works. ✌️

Great Rides! You are going really far on a charge! I didn't realize so many people are interested in "hypermiling" their ebike.

What tires are you running? Last weekend I test road (a customers blue bike flx F5 that needed a tuneup) with city/slick tires, it was significantly faster than the one I rode in the video - I could easily maintain 28mph on the road which was not the case the stock f5.

Yep I like to hypermile also, it's interesting as my bike is a pure e enduro mtb with Maxxis DHF EXO+ and MAXXIS High Roler DD, which are not ment for this type of riding. Pressure helps quite a lot. 31 Psi on these tires is enough as the carcass is pretty tough.

Great ride!
I avoid bitumen (& traffic) and try to stick to the dirt or quiet gravel roads at least, so as a 90kg rider I was quite happy to do 187km in 2 days with one charge halfway. I don't have the precise stats but afaik it was around 2000m ascent. What I can't forget is the return trip getting to the car with 2% battery left :)

I'm using a 900wh battery on an ep8. I did a pretty steep chunky fsr climb with it, 1450 meters over about 8kms. After getting to the bottom it was around 22kms distance and had 2 bars left.

Another I did around 40kms and 1800 meters climb.
