    Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Yep de restriction is the only way on the road or it's abysmal

I'm happy to do 25mph on the road. Just using normal MTB gears but in the top gear with the motor propelling me along.

Overtaking roadies and almost keeping up with cars, so very few have to overtake me on most road sections.

For this to go back to 15mph with the motor constantly cutting in and out would be a very sad day indeed.

I noticed the date of the original post was Jan 2024.

I suffered a motor failure since then, in April 2024. Removed the Levociraptor, reset the de restriction to 0, and the bike shop still replaced the motor under warranty.

So I'm wondering how the person who created the original post got detected yet I didn't despite mine being more recent and having the firmware "at least" as up to date ?

One possibility is that the shop did indeed detect the use of the Levociraptor but ignored it and replaced the motor.

There are some things you can do to be able to maintain more speed on both tarmac and flat singletrack. There is no speed limiter, just a limit to motor assist. When ride in the forests it is all steep downhill or riding back up to trailhead so not an issue. When we ride cross country we cannot avoid a few road sections. What slows you down after the motor cuts out on those sections can be alleviated by using lighter weight and faster rolling tyres....tyres that still provide enough grip on off road terrain...at least in summer conditions. Also run with higher pressures. Then get used to using lower gears/ higher cadence before the cut off speed. Be aware that also on the open road speeds much more than 15mph start produce quite a bit of wind resistance.....and our bikes and our usual baggy riding gear have a lot of wind resistance!! Even wide knobbly tires increase that...which you soon discover in any sort of crosswind!
My bike is 26kg with full enduro geo etc....I can maintain 17/18 mph on open road as long as there is no strong headwind.
If you change the frame to a road bike , tyres to road ones , wear Lycra you might get up to 19 😂

Exactly! Horses for courses. Tarmac is boring at any speed.......and pretty dangerous if a main road......fortunately for me if I have to do a tarmac section it is just country lane and pretty short.

I do so many different routes and rides, that some rides have large amounts of riding on main roads full of traffic, and some rides have no road at all. Plus everything inbetween.

On quiet roads I often actually get my entertainment from pulling wheelies. Another problem a 15mph restriction would cause is if I'm in the middle of a wheelie and hit the 15mph limit it would almost certainly end the wheelie.

De restricted e bikes are great at getting road sections out of the way with quickly. Plus it can be quite fun sometimes doing 25mph on the roads, but some roads are no fun no matter what. At least it gets it out of the way with quicker.

If I never rode on the road at all I probably would not be bothered by the 15mph limit very often

Got a Levociraptor chip with a 2020 Specialized Turbo Levo 2nd gen. Motor failed. Clutch I believe. Second motor. About 2 months old, ridden twice. Specialized won't replace or repair due to "warranty voided".
I did the TCU reset but somehow Specialized still picked it up. Wheel diameter set to 1,000mm.
Any words of advice?
Did the TCU reset not work?
Does Specialized store data on their side with my bike details? Big brother watching me?

Where is that screenshot from? Did the dealer send it to you? It does look like some log from the motor showing that the wheel circumference was historically changed. If this is the case, and thats how the levociraptor works, then it is very easy for them to detect it

Something like a Speedi would be much harder to detect, almost impossible to do reliably, and is probably still very safe. Sucks a bit to still be limited to 1.5x speed though!

After some emailing with Levociraptor this is my understanding of the situation:

The TCU, if connected with the Mission Control app, will sometimes send what it knows about the system to the specialized server. One of the pieces of information sent is the wheel circumference. The screenshot is data that has been uploaded to their server. If the app has never connected to their server, they have no such data

Levociraptor gen 3 will set the motor to use a smaller wheel circumference, but then still send correct circumference to the TCU. So the TCU will not know any other wheel circumference then the correct one

If Levociraptor is removed, the wheel circumference set in the motor will be reported to the TCU. So if the motor is set to a fake circumference the TCU will get that information. The speed limit has to be set to standard before removing the Levociraptor, otherwise the fake wheel circumference set in the motor will "leak" to the TCU. Then it may get sent to specialized servers, or show up as the current setting in apps or diagnostics tools.

Levociraptor gen 1/2 would not send correct wheel circumference to the TCU, and could then leak the fake circumference to specialized through the app

Note that this is my intepretation of what Levociraptor told me. I dont know if Levociraptor is correct, or my relaying of their info is correct either. It does sound reasonable though

TL;DR Levociraptor gen 3 should be safe to use according to the logic above, but never remove it without first setting the speed limit back to normal
