I have just fitted an GX AXS kit to the bike but am struggling to remove the old outer shift cable

It just won't pull through the frame,

I'm assuming it's caught up around the motor,

Will I need to drop the motor to remove it or am I missing something really obvious?

For now I have just cut the cable an inch above where it enters the frame and tapped it up and almost flush at the rear end

If is a case of dropping the motor, it may be a job for the LBS to do for me

are you aware there are cable clips under the shock that needs to be removed or at least loosened?

I fitted AXS to my Gen 1 levo the day I got it. I simply undid the cable screw on the rear derailleur, popped the cable out of the shifter, and hauled it from the shifter end. The whole thing came out with 1 big pull.

That was a carbon frame (expert). I believe the Alloy frame may have different routing where the rear triangle attaches to the main frame?

Mine must be caught on somethign as no matter how hard I pull on the cable it won't budge

Also checked the shock and there ar eno cable clips that I can see

On the standard levo I can see them though

They must have removed them on the SL to save 0.0000001g weight.

you could remove the shock, and rotate the rear triangle to see if it frees off, most of the friction seemed to come from where it comes out of the main frame/motor area and into the chain stay.
