Hi all,
Doing a carbon wheelset with centrelock hubs upgrade and have fitted a Shimano RT-EM810 rotor which is one of the EMTB rotor(Shimano Steps mind you) with the fitted magnet.
All fits perfectly but I'm having issues with random power loss.
I know its to do with the new rotor as I fitted the original SRAM wheel/rotor and issues disappeared.
Questions raised are:
Magnet is slightly further outboard of the axle line with the Shimano rotor - could this be causing issues?
SRAM magnet is at least twice as strong as the Shimano one - could this be causing issues??
Magnet to sensor proximity is also slightly different between the two???

With the power loss we get a motor fault code.

Anyone had any experience with this problem???

Cheers,
Peter

The sensor is very sensitive to distance *and* strength so yes, it will certainly cause issues.

For a short-term solution, get a steel Centerlock lock ring and attach an N52 magnet to it. Even with nothing else to secure it (glue, epoxy, etc.) the magnet sticks quite well. I rode my Levo like this with no issues. You can carry a spare magnet easily enough in case it falls off (you usually have to buy them in bulk anyway, I got a pack of 10 on eBay).

The Turbo Creo includes Centerlock rotors. Specialized has a lockring with magnet for this bike. I don't have the part number unfortunately. This appears to be the "best" solution for Centerlock rotors on a Levo, if you can get the part. I'm still waiting for my LBS to be able to get them (which is kind of sad since they're in Morgan Hill...)

There are other workarounds too. For example Scott makes a Centerlock adapter with magnet (part #266595). ASV makes one but I think it's absurdly overpriced. And you can find posts on this forum where people have found various solutions involving glue, epoxy, etc. But I think the Creo magnet is our best bet.
