First things to check
Do diagnostics output with mission control app ( shop should ask for this anyway)
Check battery connection is clean and nothing blocking the little holes in the plug
Make sure speed sensor and magnet on rear rotor is in place and not dirty or damaged, sensor is on the inside of rear non driveside chain stay
Hope that helps

Thank you all for you suggestion's. my friend turned they battery off then on then the down buttons on battery. but still no engine power, I got down had a close look at the plug all looked clean & clear.
my friend does not even own a smart phone, I have an iPhone 7 & use Mission Conrol. he asked if I thought if I hooked up mission control it could tell me.
but I was told by another that they helped someone out like that and , later when that person took there bike in to LBS for tech support. the specialised tech said the bike had been hacked , the guy who had helped was in a spot. so I said as all the lights were on and he had charged battery night before. I could not see what looking with mission control would do, as I would expect it to be the plug as he road it day before and all worked and sounded fine.
he phoned LBS & still waiting to hear back. very frustrating for him but I'll tell him to re check that plug to check the little holes all clear.
thanks again all.

Have you checked that the sensor magnet hasn't moved/fallen off?

It could be a wide range of problems, something simple like the sensor on the rear, harness issue or you may need a new motor or battery.
When mine packed up and would not go again, it turned out it needed a new motor due to water getting in through a dodgy harness. Lets hope it is something simple

but he is upset as we ride a lot and he will miss a few rides. I can understand how he feel's.
