Hi Folks, I just got my Kona Remote Ctrl (2019). I'm enjoying it a lot and am slowly getting used to the handling (descends mainly by ploughing over and through everything lol) Anyone else ride one of these? Seen lots of posts about the remote 160 but less about the Crtl?

I have one too. It's a cracking bike. Keep an eye on the rims as mine split along the line of the spokes. I've also changed the fork to a Lyrik I had and converted it to coil.

Wow how did you manage to split the rims and after how many miles?

I read during pre-purchase research that the yari can be upgraded internally to lyrik spec quite easily, I was thinking if I ever needed to I may do so. Why did you do replace it out of interest? I find overall it's a pretty good fork.

Most of my issues with bikes have something to do with me weighing 115kg and being 6'8" tall (yes I just mixed units there). I managed 1500km before I found the split in the rim. The front rim was also deforming around each spoke although it hadn't started to crack. WTB replaced the rims with the tough version and I sold the wheels and replaced them with DT Swiss H1700. It's worth cleaning and checking the rims every so often.

I found the Yari to be a solid fork but always a bit harsh at the pressures I had to run it at. That, combined with the fact I needed a longer steerer for a slightly higher front end just led me to the whole coil Lyrik thing.

The bike as a whole is awesome though. I initially thought that 130mm of travel on the rear might not be enough but it has never held me back.

thought I replied to this ages ago but clearly not! I'm not quite up there but at 6'4 and 110kgs with gear on, I've seen my way through several rims and back in the day, bottom brackets (when they were ISIS splined internal bearings etc). The WTB rims look burly as anything so I had thought they would be ok- worth keeping an eye on though as you say.

Now you mention it, I have found the small bump compliance to be somewhat weak, probably a symptom of the high pressure as you say. The best fork I ever had for this was an ancient fox 36. service intervals on these though have made me avoid fox from now on.

Yep you're right. 130mm seems just dandy- because of the amount of hike-a-biking that I do (rural wales= sheep= gates, fences, stiles) I wouldn't want anything burlier anyway.

Taking it to derbyshire for a week now so hopefully will get some good rides out on it there. slightly different terrain to here.
