Kiox cleaning

Anyone had problems with their Kiox power button? My non smart one has developed a very stiff feel to the power button. The bike is ridden all year round & the cause is almost certainy a build up of mud & dirt working its way in behind the switch.

It's not obvious if the unit comes apart for a clean up & I don't want to force anything but I can foresee it getting to the point where I won't be able to switch the bike on. I have tried a toothbrush on the buttons but that didn't work. Any tips on opening these up without breaking them?

I’ve only re-wired the basic pogo pin assembly for changes in mounting brackets. I’ve never disassembled the Kiox.

Shortly after purchasing a Kiox I moved it to the top tube position. That new position doesn’t help with weather or trail elements …only with sudden disconnects or a crash. I still add a small tether though.

The Kiox power button has always been a concern. Exposed and used often and difficult to clean. Eventually fatigue and constant use will cause it to fail. Thankfully I haven’t had an issue …yet.

I don’t have a spare Kiox, only a few spare Purion’s.

I suspect it's manufactured to snap together with no regard to disassembly. Pound to a penny beneath the button is a bubble press switch on the board but there's no obvious way to access the internals. Could spray it with brake cleaner or similar but I'm not keen on the idea.

Yeah, I think the power switch is integrated into the psb …possibly a very small reed-type switch. If that’s the case then we are SOL for any service.

This would mean that using any type of liquid cleaner could be useless. Honestly, I’ve only used a light thumb-swipe to clean any debris away from the screen or button. …or a gentle water spray.

I’d be worried that using anything more could compromise the water-tight seal (s). With constant use, it’s only a matter of time before that switch completely fails. Having to press harder on the power button sounds like the beginning of failure.

OR…buy a new bike 😉

I’d also be curious to know what the solution could be. If just the Kiox could be purchased, rather than the controller and all the wiring.

I did purchase a Kiox kit/box for my son’s bike. ($200 CDN in the clearance bin at my LBS). I believe I was able to order just the controller once (when I broke the bar clamp.). But I have a few old Purion controllers as spare’s …just in case.

My controller and wiring loom is arriving from Germany tomorrow.
It's the only place that I could find it for sale. You can also buy the kiox head unit as a separate item.
I'm intrigued by the frame mount on your bike though!

The frame mount, or top tube mount, may only be possible on the Trek Rail, or similar, with the knockblock. A different Kiox holder is required, along with the very small triangle shape plate, with two small holes, which helps orientate the Kiox position.

The top tube position keeps the Kiox out of harms way, but allows for a quick glance while still riding. I use the tether also.

This holder can be purchased by itself. The existing pogo plates and wires can be used. The small triangle shaped plate is needed also …but I just carefully drilled two small holes into the existing plate.

It’s a fairly cheap modification ($10?)

You can get screen covers and controller covers

I guess I could have clarified that the small triangle shaped plate is a retainer for the knockblock bottom spacer. A single screw is used to hold this in position. (If that makes sense?)
