Kellys Theos F90 Arrived

NEW BIKE DAY in the Studio.

It’s the Kellys Theos F90 Super Enduro ebike. It’s make from Thermoplastic Hybrid Steel-Carbon Composite.

About the frame. Basically, the lightweight and stiffness benefits that carbon brings, but it is claimed 2x more impact resistant, 2x more durable and upon huge impacts won’t crack like carbon can, it’ll deform more like aluminium will.

It’s also built by robots, instead of manual layups, made in Europe and can also be recycled. Pretty neat so far.

The bike specs are also very impressive, including:

- 22.4 KG on my scales in L
- 720Wh battery
- Shimano EP8 85Nm
- 180mm Fox 38 Factory Fork
- 170mm Rear Travel RS Super Deluxe
- Mullet Aluminium DT Swiss wheelset
- SLX / XT build

Its a Super Deluxe Ultimate. The build is Aluminium wheels, SLX / XT Drivetrain, so it kinda fits in with the build. Interesting that they've gone for the lighter 11 speed drivetrain on this too.

Forgot to add price, this one is 7999 Euro / £6800 in GBP converted.

I remember watching the video about the frame and how they were building it, looks awesome all built up.
So What's not to like?
Light, good travel, good components, looks nice and its exclusive looking bike in the all important bouncing around walking bottom car park.

So who sells them and who repairs them????

Shimano would do warranty at LBS, battery likely have to go via BMZ / Kellys as its non Shimano.

Will be watching this one with interest - one thing that has always stood out to me with the Theos is the very low linkage on the chain stays, a bit like the Norco Range, and if its going to take a beating if you smack into something.

It does look vulnerable doesn’t it.

Specially with the angle they have set the motor. Creates a lot of clearance under the motor but then does leave the linkage exposed.

Bike looks banging tho!!

The compromises involved on that shock linkage look huge to me too. Exact same thought - the side load & bending forces it will face.

Rob I have one of these on order. The £8500 UK price is to cover the UK distribution & warranty liability. Or you can take the risk & buy it cheaper in Europe but the frame & battery will not be covered from the UK.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but I can't get over that shock linkage being so low. That...is...not...good...at...all. I can't imagine that not being easily damaged.

You sure have big balls Sir! One could think that in other type of bikes you have top tube there instead of bottle. Shouldn't that be a problem also?

Looks like a perfect place for small stones and other debris to collect that can damage the frame.

Yeah, I put a link up from vorsprung saying this kind of link puts a shit load of stress on the shock.

I had an AXP bash guard on my husky 350 which covered the link, it'd be easy enough to make something for this.

It's interesting the way they've mounted the motor so that normally you could have the battery low next to it, but potentially have quite an exposed Kangaroo pouch in front of the BB. Instead they've mounted the battery quite high to give a relatively open area where some of us would invariably be using the bike to landscape the terrain - at the expense of a higher COG ?

Battery appears quick short/compact all things considered though ?

Whilst the highlighted area is quite exposed, presumably you'd have to be hitting something pretty square to impact it rather than the tyre hitting the log/rock ? Would be great to see one of @Rob Rides EMTB 1000000 FPS Huck to flat videos of this bike to see how exposed that linkage is when the travel's fully compressed.

Battery is approx 44 cm long, 20Ah, 36V, 725Wh and weights 3.7 KG. Its pretty compact. Made by BMZ.

For comparison, a Bosch Powertube 750Wh is 4.4KG + the added weight of locking mechanism (depending on the bike. On Trek Rail its approx 400g).
