Is this right?

Took the cover off my new Cube with gen4 motor, just to be nosy and see how much crap gets in there. There’s a cable which has been wrapped around the bolt which holds the cover on . Is it supposed to be like that to hold it in place or has it been trapped there on assembly? Doesn’t look right.

Cables carrying current have a minimum radius so it is probably wrapped a round that bolt to maintain a reasonable radius. Could have been done a little neater though!!

Now I don’t know what to do. Leave it as is or flatten it under the bolt? As it is , when reassembled the cable is trapped between the bolt housing and the motor cover ?‍♂️

Think I would pull it clear of that area altogether but a bit tricky to see what is where from your pic?

I'd wait until someone with a similar one comes back ..

Though it would maintain radius tucked under.

For me, I'd be thinking, like BM, that it would wear like that due to vibration - but it is sheathed and there shouldn't be any motion - it's not like it's on rubber engine mounts ..

It looks too much like it could get trapped, clamped, pinched BROKEN where it is ..

Just need all forum Cube owners to stop what they are doing at the moment, get in the garage, get the bike upside down, take it to bits, and let me know. There’s not much on the telly at the moment anyway.

Its a flat cable and its braided. It probably goes around whatever bolt goes into the area it is hanging on now rather than where it is. It can hardly have been put there when built by accident and if it was not designed to go around that bolt it would be cut shorter. So I say its where it should be ...nearly.

Pity i didnt read this earlier, as i had the cover off mine to clean it out today. I dont remember seeing a cable wrapped around like that, but i wasnt really looking for that either.

Yes, that makes perfect sense. But it was in that position and it just looked wrong when the cover came off. The cover was pressing down on it. If I reposition it, do I need to keep a loop in it?

Yours is probably ok Trig, because you would have noticed it straight away. ?

You’re hard work sometimes ?. I meant would it matter if I flattened the loop?
I would imagine the least pressure on the cable would be to remove it from round the bolt mount and let it sit flat under the housing.

It looks like it should slide under the main housing about 5-10mm whist maintaining the same degree of "loopage" which it's used to being in - further if you include the bolt mount.

Fortunatetly, it's not 47 years old so you shouldn't run into any issues moving it at this stage.

Hook off the top part. Lay flat, slide back under housing. Check that it will stay there and not rub/catch on anything else which isn't immediately obvious in the pictures.

I did what you suggested, plus used a bit of pipe lagging to maintain the loop.
First photo is how it was. The casing was pressing on the cable.
Second is lagging keeping the loop.
Third is how it looks now
Will see what happens ?

Had a look at the bottom of my hybrid stereo 140 tm 2020 and i dont have any gaps in the motor guard so unable to see any cables without taking covers off.
