Is there a way to get shimano steps on garmin to work when in fine tune assist mode?

My shimano steps on garmin works perfectly when in basic assist mode with just 3 levels of assist. However if i switch to fine tune mode because I simply wanted another lower level of assist, so 4 modes in total, it no longer reads what mode you're in, or updates range estimates, things like that. Is there a way for this to work or am I pissing in the wind? Bike is a 2023 orbea rise with ep801 motor.

Edit... it shows in ride stats that there's now 4 levels, but when I switch it doesn't register them.
