Having a bit of a nightmare with my contents insurance when trying to add my Whyte E160RS. I'm with Halifax who only cover up to 5k on an individual item. Any helpful advice on specialist insurers, etc greatly received. Got a quote from cycleguard to cover the bike alone for £343 a year. Lloyds will cover up to 25k for specified items but that takes my monthly premium from 8.34 to 40.41!!

My home insurance wont cover the ebike. Seems they've decided not to :( Which is a damn shame, I've been with them for 25 years.
Ach well, It shall have to be someone like cycleguard or such.

So what are we looking at ?, 30 quid a month.

Cycleguard for me were £343 with lots of conditions. I'm going to phone Swinton tomorrow to see what they say. I live in a flat with a cycle store as part of the building which they all want to class as an outbuilding but only cover up to 5k per item in an outbuilding. At this rate it'll live in the flat which will be a pita

I'll be interested to see how you get on with Swindon.

I may fair better. Bike lives in the hallway inside the house. My only concern and the need for insurance is locking it in the city center for 30 odd minutes while I pop into M&S or out to one of the bigger shopping centers to check out generalized house goods.
Nowhere I use it is it out of view for anymore than a few minutes, and im using gold rated lock.

I have my house insurance with Swinton and they will not cover my emtb.

I took out cycle insurance with Assetsure 3 years ago and it has stayed at about the same price for the last 3 years.

It costs £236.42 per year and covers the bike, equipment and clothing, at home, outside the home, including whilst in/on a vehicle, and in use on or off road. It also covers personal accident and third- party cover.

They insist on Sold Secure Gold locks and ground anchors when stored at home, and SS Gold lock and cable/chain if in or on a vehicle and when left unattended outside.

Thanks for the info. I will start again tomorrow!

M&S home insurance cover bikes upto value of 15k, my cover was £306 this year up from £300 last year pricey but a lot cheaper than specific cycle cover. With Premier cover your also covered away from home as long as the bikes are not left unattended & locked securely in a building.

I'm with NFU for home insurance and they are used to insuring expensive farm vehicles etc so adding 2 bikes at real value, including the same cover as cycle plan cost me just £160 a year extra.

The AA added mine (Underwriter is Aviva I think) at full value, new for old replacement, to the home contents for an extra £15/pa 👍

I also was finding crazy quotes all over before I did that.

Just added my new Cube to our Nationwide House insurance...nowt extra.

Fully covered at home and out riding, no extra cost.

Wife's bike on it as well... no extra.

Time to shop around.

If you have a Nationwide account, give them a try, or whoever you bank with, and I don't pay a monthly charge for my bank account, basic current account.

Well pleased. :)

All sorted now with M&S. Feel sorry for the member of staff I spoke to as I questioned everything but having handsome many obstacles from other insurers really wanted to be sure. £386 which isn't cheap but covers the bike in the cycle store and anywhere in the UK including loss or damage to it. He gave me a breakdown of the costs and the bike was 329.08 of the total. No specified type of lock required just either locked to an immovable object or in a locked building when not in my care and control. Also covers my other 2 bikes as they take the cost of the most expensive one and any others are covered as long as they are below that value.

Piece of mind at last!

pedalcover.co.uk are superb for home insurance that covers bikes, and they were great when I had three bikes stolen a couple of years ago. Very fast, very fair payout. Can't recommend enough.

I’m with LV. It cost about £30pa to add my £4600 Trek Powerfly 7. Garaged at night. Gold Sold Assured lock required when away from the home.

Update. LV won’t cover anything over £4.5k value, so my £6k Giant that replaced the Trek couldn’t be covered. Ended up paying £200+ to Spinsure - more than my car!

I used the AA for the house, building and contents and added both our ebikes valued at 5k combined came to 194 gbp.
The away from home cover for the ebikes is really good as well

I’m with brokerlink intact. 400$ they are charging me. If the bike gets stolen it doesn’t effect my insurance the insurance guy said. It’s kind of a separate policy as I understand. A lot of coin though. My $30k trailer was the same price to insure and is 3x the value. Don’t make sense but not much does with insurance now days.

Give wiggle insurance a bell. I paid for mine through the app and they rang me up to knock about a fiver off per month because they have a deal on at the moment.

Do you mean monthly?

I just received an offer of 14 pounds monthly with Aviva for 4500 pounds of MTB, without specific requirements of lockers in the garage that for me it's crucial (no D-Lock).
Plus liability and legal insurance.

£200-ish was the annual cost, for a £6k bike, so maybe not too far off your £14/mth.

Are you still with NFU for home insurance? I want to get home insurance & builder insurance policy and want a few recommendations before selecting one, Also how much does it cost you for your home insurance, let me know, thanks

Yes mate, about to transfer my business insurance over to them as well.. because I'm local to the branch,I know others that have made claims (as well as myself) and had them approved without quibble... Not for bikes, this is business and home damage etc but they are very good at helping when you need them.
