I’ve been playing golf for years, it’s my second most expensive sport after my bikes. I was just over in Saint Andrews with my father-in-law on a week long golf holiday. We played a course a day starting with the new course and ended with playing a round on the old course. You are in the land of golf… try it and yes… do your own research as no one cares about you as much as yourself and if you are fortunate, your wife
I can tell I’m grumpier for sure, I went for a run earlier today just to do something physical. I haven’t updated my profile the Fort Bill thing caught me off guard, I moved to Inverness about 10 months ago….seems to be where all the Scottish MTB influencers are moving for some reason.I would definitely be a grumpier old man. Need something but there's so much available in Fort Bill I'm sure you'll find something. Get better soon
I'm Buckie I love Inverness and go to Fort William or pass through occasionally. Great areaI can tell I’m grumpier for sure, I went for a run earlier today just to do something physical. I have said for years that I probably will end up on a trike and pooping in a diaper again before it's my time. You may not like the sound of it but what about a trike? I don’t know much about them but it maybe ok with balance issues on some XC trails.
Vestibular issue? I would seek a vestibular PT if so, especially if meds not working anf balance continues to be an issue. Vestibular Occular Reflex exercises are a good place to start (VOR ex’s). If they increase your symptoms too much (not come back to baseline within 15-20 minutes max) then I would consider the Cawthorne-Cooksey exercises instead that gradually ramps you up to movement tolerance with basic to more involved movements.I’ve been dealing with some medical issues over the years that have gotten worse. It’s to the point where I can’t finish a ride anymore. I’m kind of in limbo dealing with the NHS, been waiting 5 months so far just to get another MRI that won’t show anything.
What would you do other than biking?!? I’m at a loss, I used to race RC cars but there’s no tracks where I live so that’s not going to happen. I love long distance shooting, still have some mega money in guns back in the US but can’t do that here either
Yeah, it’s a vestibular issue. I have some pretty severe tinnitus and suffered a mild TBI back in 2007. The ENT I was working with in Dubai told me it was the early stages of Ménière’s Syndrome. If I close my eyes and rely solely on my ears I practically have no balance. I’m just having to play the waiting game with the NHS to more than likely get to the same conclusion. I’ve looked for a vestibular PT but they’re all 3-4 hours away from me.Vestibular issue? I would seek a vestibular PT if so, especially if meds not working anf balance continues to be an issue. Funny 10 years ago had my gallbladder decided to burst got cut open to fix the issuehave you tried this: Home Epley Maneuver
Maybe get an observed trials bike? Not too physical (not a lot of exertion, endurance or strength needed), mostly about balance and learning skill moves.I’ve been dealing with some medical issues over the years that have gotten worse. I know it’s not cheap but have you considered going private for your treatment, I recently witnessed a suicide and sought advice from the NHS only to be told I’d be waiting for months for the minimum CBT therapy, the trouble is I need EMDR trauma therapy which is a much longer waiting list, I have found a private therapist and have had two sessions, a total of two weeks waiting and two weeks of therapy, not cheap but worth it to get seen quickly, might be an option for you mate.I’ve been dealing with some medical issues over the years that have gotten worse. I’ve just got back in RC after selling up 10 years ago. I do have a few tracks nearby but not paid any a visit yet. Still have a blast just taking them bashing with my son and my mates. The rock crawlers are good fun and don’t break much. For me, half the fun is in building and modding them. What would you do other than biking?!? I had something like that Meniers syndrome??? , similar to vertigo doc said. Only occasionally I got it but I was off skiing and when I stopped it felt like I was still moving. Yes gave me some manoeuvre and tablets if I needed them which I didn't . Old age catching up on all of us I'm afraid ,were anyway.Funny 10 years ago had my gallbladder decided to burst got cut open to fix the issue
Anyway while recovering suffered a minor stroke
After that motion sickness was rife I moving the head in different positions
Anyway I use that manoeuvre when it kicks
Itto do with crystals dislodging within the inner ear canal
That manoeuvre works ever time
I love the kayaking planning a route for Tuesday , very much the fair weather paddler now . Probably the least expensive maintenance hobby I have . I think I've spent £300 on boat repairs and had it 11 years.Kayaking!! I faced this question 7 years ago when diagnosed with a heart condition. It’s what had me transition from analog to emtbs. In the intervening months prior to the transition, depressed and mentally f@#ked, I decided I would spend a lot of money on a high-end kayak and make the shift. Then I learned about Specialized emtbs and the Blevo app and happily avoided the whole mess.
Cheers!!
Or Bowls, or ballroom dancing, or bingo.........
If I start to contemplate golf I give anyone here full permission to shoot me.
One man's meat is another man's poison as the saying goes. When I'm getting dotty and not mobile my orders are sit me in front of telly with plenty tea and put on Heartbeat and All Creatures great and small box sets .Or Bowls, or ballroom dancing, or bingo.
I'm sure there will be a few others equally as appalling that I will be offered.

I was taught how to do the Epley back when I was in Dubai. I’ve had it done multiple times, it sometimes works when I’m having a vertigo attack but it’s hit and miss. My wife and I took the kids to one of the local farm parks earlier, I drove and when I got out of the car I felt like I was on a boat. It’s pretty miserable, pretty much ruins the day for me.Shit yeah it is, I’m having a brain fog moment now not much different is there
It’s the Epley manoeuvre
There’s tons of tracks down in England but not so much up here in Scotland, even worse in the highlands. There was a local club that had a track at one of the parks but it was shut down, they were supposed to be redoing it but it never opened back up. The club that ran it hasn’t posted on their page in like 2 years now.I’ve just got back in RC after selling up 10 years ago. I do have a few tracks nearby but not paid any a visit yet. Turn your head from side to side if I remember. Long time ago since I had that thankfully.I was taught how to do the Epley back when I was in Dubai. The hobby as a whole seems to have died off since last time I was doing it. Half the clubs there used to be here on the south coast. Spares and hop ups are not as readily available because of less demand. I’ve got mainly off road stuff now and take it to the local skate park which also has a dirt jump section. The rock crawlers come out when I take the dogs for a walk. Would ideally like to find a proper rock crawler course to take them to.There’s tons of tracks down in England but not so much up here in Scotland, even worse in the highlands.
