Hi all,

I am looking at building a new pair of wheels for my E MTB a Giant reign E+1 pretty modified already. It currently came with a DTswiss 370 hub with 3 pawls 36 pick up points pretty basic does the job. But the rims and spokes all ready gave away.

An ebike specific DTswiss 350 has 24 pick up points, I look at the new hope 5 ebike specific has 54 pick up points.
I see others with 60 to over 108...
Living in the Alps, i want good suspension functioning and freedom not restriction. I do a lot of climbing but optimized the bike for downs.

My question is, will nearly Double pick up points on a hope hub really restrict the suspension? It's a smooth coil set up. Do you feel much pedal kick back?
And does it actually make sense for Ebikes to have so much more pick up points?

I'm getting confused with the Marketing more is better.

Thanks in advance for anyone who knows.

DT Swiss designed the Emtb specific hybrid hubs with 24..........for a reason and they explain their rationale for doing so on their website. I would be inclined to follow their advice. I have the Hybrid 1700 wheels/hubs on both my bikes and they have been totally reliable and require minimal maintenance.

Ive got a Bontrager with 108, I don't notice any pedal kickback (which to be honest is down to frame and suspension kinematics rather than hub engagement pawls).

For the majority of the time more is better

I went from the standard Bontrager hub (24 points of engagement POE?) to a Project 321 hub (240 POE) and noticed an immediate difference and improvement. I also went from 28 spoke to 32 since I was breaking spokes.

Everyone has a different hub around here now but the best improvement was increased POE over the standard 24-30ish POE. Fewer peddle strikes and faster engagement. Makes a big difference on technical climbing.
