How to disconnect cables from speedo unit?

Will be changing switch unit soon and am not sure the technique for disconnecting / connecting cables from computer / speedo unit.
Got the wee tool supplied but would appreciate do’s and dont’s

Just pull it out, hold it by the connector plug, or use the tool which clasps the connector plug

Cheers....so on the tool, what’s the end with a wedged Vee in it for. ( looks like the tool we use for getting “ parasites” of the family dog!)

No idea as i never use the tool and just pulled out the cable by hand

V of the tool fits into a groove on the plug

Thanks all.....removed and replaced connectors using the Shimano tool without problem.
