How good are lyrik ultimate compared to fox factory 36 grip2?

Tempted by a deal on 29er lyrik ultimate forks. I had fox factory 36 grip2 on my last bike and my new bike currently has fox 34 performance.

never really bought into rockshox suspension.

what can I expect? The fox 34 are just ok, not premium, a bit spikey, not supple at all.
my old factory 36 were amazing with the high and low rebound and damping.

Don't know anything about the 29er Lyrics fork...what I do know is that the new(ish) Fox 38's are the dogs danglies..they just lap everything up you can throw at them ..so if you liked the 36's whats putting you off these ( apart from maybe the price ?)

You can expect a great fork, I love my Ultimates, and have Factory 36's on another bike, the RS are easy to set up and probably a bit suppler, but I ride both bikes pretty equally and I wouldn't say I notice any difference between the two in terms of thinking I would rather have one over the other.

The main difference for me is that you can get very quickly to a good setup with the RS.

I honestly dont think that unless you are at pro racer level you can tell the differences or any supposed benefits of one high end fork over another, as the mostly become apparent when going full tilt boogie on extremely gnarly terrain. Being able to get a good set up is more important for the average rider.

price and weight put me off the 38, a bit overkill for me, especially for a levo SL which is the bike the forks would be destined for.
The one trade off is I can sell the 34's , which means the price paid for an upgrade is more bearable and justifiable.

lyriks do sound user friendly for sure. I've found a new 2020 set of 160mm for £630. I'm pretty sure I could get £300 for my 34's? Only done about 6 rides on them. Will it be £300 of 'worth it' once setup?

The Lyrics would be a substantial improvement over 34;s in my opinion, but then again I think even a mid level 36 or Lyric would be.

Yeah I have a hard time believing a Lyric of any type is heavier than a 38, I cant remember what they came in at, but pretty sure IIRC 160MM 36 is heavier than my 180mm Lyric ultimate, both 27.5. According to MBR 29'r Lyric is 2015g.

Zebs are definitely heavier than 38's though

i Will weigh the Lyrik ultimates on Monday when they arrive. I'll try and remember to a do a uncut and cut steerer weight. Quite often forks are weighed with the axle too.

im sure someone on the forum has already posted up how much their 38's weighed. May have been in the Specialized area...

Since both are really good, a few things are an important choice for me.
Cheaper spare parts for maintenance and I can use the same tool as in the cassette when adjusting tokens.
I think it's customer care or user friendly thing

that's not what I want to hear ?. I have always been a fox fork patron. Thought it was time to try out something else And go against the grain.

did you put volume spacers in them. For heavier riders its a must to keep them from diving too much without too much air pressure

You'll need some torque caps for that! I found that for a heavy rider the best fork is a Fox36 with a Vorsprung spring conversion!!!!!

Its just rockshox proprietary axle stiffening mechanism, they're called torque caps but they're not available for all hubs, if you cant get them for your hub, just run without, it makes a tiny tiny difference to stiffness.
