Ok so I have a fs wild H30, will the hope spacers and top cap fit? How do they fit? Obviously take the stem off and then is it just remove old and put on new? It looks like there is a collar under the current spacers does this need to come off? Thanks
You may end up not using all of the spacers depending on how many your current set up has but should all be fine and a straight swap. Basically when your top cap goes on there should be a small gap between it and your steerer to allow for compression, just a few millimetres. Tighten down the top cap only finger tight not FT to preload the headset (seeing as you're fitting to a bike already set up most of this compression will have already happened), then tighten your stem back up, you can then very slightly back off your top cap. To check everything is fine turn your front wheel 90 degrees and apply your brakes and rock the bike forwards and back slightly as that'll reveal any play.
to answer one aspect of your question.........the larger diameter ring at the bottom of the spacer stack needs to stay there. Sometimes it is an integral part of the top bearing race set up, and usually provides the seal preventing water/dust etc going down into the headset.
