I know there are a lot of Euro's on this site. More than US I'd bet. And, every once in a while I read something you guys post and have no friggin clue WTH you are talking about. This...is one of those times. What is hiring an EMTB?

British english and american english ? 😃

Nevertheless interesting query.“…In the U.S., the law requires that all bikes are sold with the left hand controlling the front brake, and the right hand the rear brake. It’s the same in France. In Italy and Great Britain, it’s the other way around….
…. With disc brakes, the rotor is on the left side, so it’s the same as sidepull brakes: If you use the right lever to operate the front brake, then the cable run has a larger radius, which is helpful with mechanical discs. (Cables have more friction when routed in tight bends. Hydraulic fluid works via pressure, so it’s unaffected by tight bends.)“

If the bike has SRAM brakes they/you can literally just flip them over side to side. If it's something else if will need hoses moved and a good chance of bleeding. (the brakes, not immense injury)

MT5's flip too. Most hire shops are happy to oblige if you tell them you are a back to front UK'er. A shop flipped them no problem on a full sus we hired in France for my daughter. Can't remember what they were though, not MT5's.

I've never understood this, motorcycles are all right hand front brake, and motor cycles have been around for nearly as long as the "modern" bicycle.

That’s true but there was an issue with rear brake……Spanish Bultaco on the left Japanese Yamaha on the right. Gear change different side as well.

Agreed, flip-flopping between mc's and bicycles was never a problem for me because of it. I think if I had to use a right hand rear brake on a bicycle it would take me a very long time to adjust!
