Hi, Newbie from bay area with question?

Ok so just decided to get into emtb. I have been looking at Haibike, and cube. Didn't know what i should be looking for or if something different would be better. Looking to spend between $6,500-$9,500. Mostly ride single track and some downhill. Have a santa cruz nomad now that i wanna replace.

Welcome to the forum. You have a good budget so u will have a good range to choose from.

I did a lot of research and opted for the specialized Turbo Levo. Rides the most like a regular mountain bike plus no other had the same type of app for adjusted power output, etc. I did make several changes....EX1 8 speed, Shimano saints, carbon rims/bars and some other stuff. Mainly personal preference. The Haibikes are known to have more power but the Spesh is said to out handle it. Although I do like the looks of the new Haibike DH bike.

At that price range you’ll be able to get something nice. I was at about 8,500 by the time I upgraded my levo comp. figured if I was going to pay that kind of money I wanted to pick my components, so I bought a cheaper model, swapped parts before taking it home and the LBS gave me credit for the parts it came with.

I wa thinking after i found these forums that someone will mention specialized. I like the idea of getting the components that i want like you did but i don't ride enough to worry about that. What i do like is apps and electronic stuff so does specialized have better electronics then others? How does the bosch motor compare? the cube has the bosch

The 2018 Haibike Nduro are sweet, specially the ones equipped with the new Yamaha PWX motors. You can always upgrade components later. The motor and battery is most important on the initial buy of the bike.

I’ve demoed the Haibikes, Cube and Levo. In the end I opted for the Yamaha based Haibike. Demo as many as you can

I have a specilized levo, & very happy with it, Friday at LBS they gave me a ride on a new Shimano powered e bike, I only went for a short ride , bike had quick steering & good brakes motor did not impress me much & the motor was noisy, I'm used to the 2018 specilized and the motor in that quite. just thought I would mention.

I keep seeing the specialized some say that it has a rose motor and some have the specialized motor. are they the same motor? Also do most of them have bluetooth technology so it can connect to app on phone? I guess for maybe changing settings later on if they allow it. The only bike i have ridden so far is a scott with shimano drive system. I am going to ride a haibike and cube this week, one with a bosch and one with yamaha pwx. I need to find a specialized shop near me to ride that soon also.

Specialised motor = Brose motor.

Yamaha pwx

All the Brose motor didn't have the same connection and parameters possibilities. Specialized is the best for this.

With Bosch you need the Nyon display to connect to your phone. Or the Cobi interface.

I owned a 2016 Levo Brose motor, not sure what my 2018 levo has but it's has improved a lot, has an app on my iPhone called mission control, I use that all the time. my 2018 now has 2,400 km traveled have replaced front brake pads was 50% warn, I went from a stock 32 front Sproket to a 36 tooth , riding same path along the Australian coast ( hilly twisty ) I used mission control Lets Ride, it tell's you average speed for what ever ride you have done. with the 32 average speed was 20kph after I had 36 tooth crank Sproket fitted same ride average speed said 25kph. but I guess what ever works for you personally I'm happy , also after fitting the 36tooth 80km latter, I was riding as fast as I could and with 100% ( turbo ) as it started to rain so wanted to get home as sun was going down too, 500m from home rear wheel locked up, after dismounting noticed rear axle had come loose wheel out of line, so straightened wheel pushed bike home. took bike as was back to LBS that serviced found thread on axle ( alloy tube type ) stripped so put new axle in also showed me front pads more than 50% warn so got them replaced ( brake feels even better ) so all sweet again. I have a 45km group ride planed next week.

That app is something i am looking at also. I really like apps like that. When i ride my dirt bike i have a gps and can download other peoples rides so i can do the same thing they did. Does anyone have something like that?

i haven't seen either the jam2 or levy so looking at both today. Only thing i don't think i like about lego is no display on bars. I am kinda geeky so like to see things.

I use a Wahoo Bolt that can display battery info from the bike and the regular stuff you'd get from a bike computer.

Think displays are pretty overrated, the only thing I really glance at is the assist level bar graph on the Shimano display. Everything else you can get from Strava on your phone, watch etc when you pull up for a bit.

I agree with he display but it is nice knowing what mode your in. I rode the levo,kenevo,and jam2. I liked the specialized i think better. seems the shimano had more power though. the one thing i did not like was how the specialized would slow me down when i got to fast. with out display i had no idea how fast i was going but if i would pedal it would slow the bike down. noticeably feel it. I am wondering if the keno is to big to be noble or if i really need that nimble of a bike. haven't ridden in about a year so not sure what i ride most when i start back up. I like the olin shock on kenevo but i guess i could change the levo out for that later if i like it. Im getting closer i think. I think it is between the 2 specialized bikes now.

The suspension on the Specialized’s will feel more like your Nomad than the Jam2’s single pivot. You should have a pretty good idea which one you want based on the Nomad too, if you like the big bike feel, Kenevo. If the Nomad is too much a Levo it is!!

I think it’d be nice to have a tiny discrete LED on the Specialized remote to indicate power mode. Sometimes I forget the mode I am in and have beep up/down to check where I am.

Seems like you were riding on the 15.5mph limiter and kept ticking over the limit and the motor was disengaging.

Yes seemed really slow when i would slow me down. I am sure there is a way to change it and i will look for it if i buy one.
