Help with replacement chain ring

So I read in here that you could use any chain ring as a replacement so I bought a raceface narrow wide chain ring but it’s quite a bit thicker than stock shimano and won’t work with the chain guide.

has anyone successfully replaced from chain ring with anything but shimano?

Solved..

turned out to be the shimano quick link was hanging on the wide tooth..I swapped it out with a sram 11 speed quick link and works fine now and clears chain guide.

still looks as though it moves the chain line out a couple millimeters so I’ll just have to see how it goes.

I did order a shimano 34t to try as well.

For the record this didn’t work.
You need a shimano 12 speed hyperglide + specific chain ring.
Also stock shimano e8000 chainring is impossible to find in USA, I ordered a raceface.. I’ll see what happens

There's a 50mm and 53mm chainring offsets available for Shimano. 11spd is generally 53mm and 12 speed is 50mm.

scroll down to the chainrings. they're the same for 8000 and EP8.

yes but you can’t find them anywhere in USA.

some sites say they have them but the are actually backordered.

I could only find a 34t raceface shi 12 36t sold out as well at multiple dealers

I found a chainring and re-used the spider. But supply on Shimano is also very tight here.

Yes race face will work but has to be the 12 speed shimano only one they sell.

I only found 34t which I actually like better than 36t 36t was out of stock everywhere.

You will also need one of these.

You can leave spider on cranks.

oh my decoy came with slx 12 speed. It's a decoy 29. Yeah, no the chain ring I linked is 12 speed only.
