I'm stumped on how to proceed here. From what I can tell I need to remove the chain ring and place the new one on the hub thing (spider?), but the bolts just spin. How do I get my new chain ring on the bike?
Yeah I haven't taken it off the spider. I can't get to the other side of the bolts with it on the bike. Is a gear puller my option here?Chain ring bolts come in two pieces. Are the other halves still in the old chain ring?

Christ that was hard to remove. When it finally broke loose I fell over.Yes - the lockring has to be removed - (park tool BBT18 - normal R.H. thread)
So I got the new chain ring on, but how do I tighten the chain ring nut? I can hand tighten it, but it just spins the chainring. When removing it I could use the opposite crank arm to get leverage, but it doesn't work for tightening. Am I really supposed to hold the chain ring to get 50nm of torque on the nut?LOL. Now you're good to fiddle the spider & chainring off the motor shaft.
