Hello

just joined hoping to get my first empty soon really struggling to decide between a Merida ebig nine 300se or the giant fathom e+3 29

im New to emtb and quite heavy so need to get myself fit again been doing a bit of riding over the last couple of months and started to fall back in love with bikes but found my under own steam riding was limited to 8 to 10 miles a trip

I hoping with a emtb I will push that lot further and also be able hit some cool trails although the bike will mainly be used for commuting and cycle paths getting out to the trails at the weekend!

I like both bikes visually although I prefer the giant looks but main concern is the smaller battery in the fathom (400 compared to 500 in the Merida) in case I miss out on the extra range or is that going to minimal!

do you think I regret not getting the larger battery or won’t it matter that much?

The Fathom E+3 29 seems to come with a 500wh everywhere but the UK .. You could ask if they would charge a premium to supply it with the 500 and then you have the best of both worlds ?

For range, it depends on what type of riding you're doing, how fast you go, how heavy you are and how much altitude you plan to gain. If you're mainly fire roads an similar, the 400 should give you pretty decent range. If you're doing hard climbs the 500 would obviously give you a good chunk extra ! Assuming you don't stick it in "boost" .. and then it will still chew through the battery.

Whoa ..whoa ..there big fella ..
Gods Country !?
Now I know over the years that a large %age of Yorkshiremen have tried to lay claim to that title ..but they are pretty delusional ..its the first time I've heard of a Southwalean trying to lay claim to it though ..but I'm pretty comfortable in the knowledge that while you might think you are in gods country ...Northumberland is still the real deal ..??
Hello & welcome Jay ..

There's a saying in Lancashire: -

You should never ask anyone you meet if they are from Yorkshire. If they are, they will already have told you! If they are not, you don't want to offend them! :p

lol! thanks all for the welcome ;) im in bridgend - still unsure on the bike purchase - difference i guess is locality! the merida is tredz so local to me but the Giant is from Dales in Scotland - not an issue them shipping it but just worried about the warrenty and the slightly smaller battery! Decisions decisions!

i would have the same concerns regarding long term ralationship and warranty queries should you have any , without thinking about the battery comparison its a pity you couldnt try them both out?
