Hello from James Rawie Xterra world silver and Orbea Rise M20 owner

E buddies I bought a 2021 Orbea Rise M20 used. Had many negative issues with the speedsensor and had to replace speed sensor cable....obviously no warranty. Issue now is that going uphill, putting great demand on power to level 2 or turbo consistently has "power cut out" and i'm basically pedaling an unpowered bike for several revolutions.....turbo can kick in suddenly and give power boost, but it is nothing as powerful nor consistent as 2021 Levo SL that i still have access to. Used the STEPS app to configure settings in all three modes, but nothing helped. What is wierd is that the more stress/need for power going up, the LESS power it usually has, and when i spin easily, power is consistent. local EP8 LBS is baffled. Anyone have any hints. feels like a "power programming" issue related to cadence and need for power. thanks for ideas. jr

Faulty torque sensor ?

I'd still start with checking all cables are seated correctly though.

Can you get access to a different battery to try that and rule that out too.

The Shimano motor is supposed to run at it's best with a higher cadence or "and when i spin easily" but as Zimmer suggested and with my own experiences with shitmano motors, the torque sensor is a major Achilles heal with them. And there is nothing worse than an intermittent fault. Good luck with it and hopefully it is something easily remedied

hmmm now how do you REALLY feel about shimano? so there is a torque sensor that might be replaceable.....at least i might know where to start. thanks for heads up

Battery is a huge headache......but i DO have access to the extender battery, and since if its connected, the bike draws from extender before it goes to the internal battery, so this test is easy. seated cables....possibly shorting out on max cadence doesnt sound as likely as a bum torque sensor. thanks for battery idea

No there are no replaceable parts available for purchase from Shitmano, no one will touch them for repair either. Think you can buy some bearing replacements from third party sellers but unless you have a sacrificial motor for the parts and a willing to have a go yourself your up for a new motor.
I had to buy one from Germany which then incurred import taxes here in Australia and the whole thing ended up cost around the $2000 mark. The 2nd motor then started playing up too, couldn't rely on it to finish a ride so moved it on. I loved the bike and motor WHEN IT WAS WORKING but didn't trust it anymore. Hence the sour taste when it comes to Shimano motors, love the brakes, love the transmissions but the motors are great when they work and shitful when they don't. Fingers crossed on the Bosch powered bike I have now keeps up the good work.

Makes a good case for NOT buying used when these things are more techy than we realized. I'm a fair mechanic, but this is such a head scratcher, and if you didnt even solve it with a new motor, then its a new bike with a warranty and lessons learned. UGH mine does ride/work, but not if you really demand power from it ..........buy used and learn. sigh
